New release - order nowTHE AMAZING: Gentle Stream (SUB-084-LP 2011) vinyl LP NEW 180:- THE AMAZING: Gentle Stream (SUB-085-CD 2011) CD NEW 109:- The Amazing fell far from the tree. A natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallising into a folk-rock-psych-pop-collective slowly pushing, bending, then playing with any preconceived notions of pop. When a band take a name like The Amazing, they’d better be have the chops to back it up. Happily, this Swedish outfit – a collective headed by Reine Fiske of psych juggernauts Dungen and singer-songwriter Christoffer Gunrup – are masterful enough to take that mantle on. Friends first and foremost, it’s this kindred spirit that imbues the band album with a feeling unlike that of most releases – one of natural harmony, persistent progression and with a panoramic gaze fixed on distant settings. The band’s second album proper (following 2009’s The Amazing and 2010’s mini album Wait For A Light To Come), Excerpts from reviews of the debut: “The cream of Sweden's psychedelic/neo-folk underground… an album of rare beauty” MOJO. “A gorgeously understated blend of gentle psychedelic pop, tranquil folk rock and gently stoned prog” Q. “Genuinely an amazing album” UNCUT. “A classic case of strength in diversity, blurring the boundaries between folk-rock dreaminess and psych splendour” WORD. Gentle Stream is widescreen, panoramic, horizon-reaching stuff. An elegantly constructed record of moody psychedelic majesty, it comes with a greater dose of CSNY-style Laurel Canyon bliss than those previous recordings. Its eight songs clock in at a luxurious 45 minutes long, during which astral guitars intertwine in serpentine solos, horns blast rainbow melodies and Gunrup’s flute-like voice floats elegantly over the sunset sounds. Nothing is introverted or overworked – everything is balanced, kept together by natural melodies, soulful vocals and just how perfect should be. Gentle Stream is a feeling, an organic consequence of something that effortlessly came together. The line-up completed by Johan Holmegard, Fredrik Swahn, Alexis Benson and highly rated jazz musicians Moussa Fadera and Jonas Kullhammar, The Amazing recorded the new LP in Stockholm, Sweden and formed plans to collect themselves in this incredible unison. There are doubtless stories to be told. Including the one about playing a show for the Swedish Royal Family and Pink Floyd, where in the crowd Roger Waters appreciatively caught a bouquet thrown from the band during a standing ovation, but this mysterious band hold one principle dear to their hearts: “The music speaks for itself”. |

DUNGEN: Skit I Allt Instrumental Mixes 5 x 7” Box Set (SUB-078-S-BOX) NEW 400:- Deluxe 5x /” single box set with instrumental versions of all the tracks from the new Skit I Allt album. Some mixes are also in mono. Strictly limited edition of 500 copies worldwide only. Also contains a small poster/inlay cardDUNGEN: Skit I allt (Subliminal Sounds SUB-077-CD 2010) NEW 99:- Sweden's Dungen sweetly return with a collection of gorgeous, dreamlike melodies, psychedelic stonkers and graceful, jazz-filled polyrhythms. called Skit I Allt. Says main man/ producer/ arranger/ singer Gustav Ejstes: “For me, it means, Don’t give a shit, forget about it, just go ahead and do it. A friend said: “Skit I Allt; Fuck it, do as you want, time is passing and it’s changing, forget fears and hang-ups, we are small and everything is pretty insignificant on the whole. How will it be? What shall we do? We often worry so much unnecessarily. Skit i allt, it’s happening now”. In what feels like a very short decade, Sweden’s Dungen has mutated at a furious pace. Main man/ producer/ arranger/ singer/ golden child Gustav Ejstes’s lone constant has been change. At ease with effervescent pop, third-eye popping psychedelia, heavy rock, spider-web folk and breezy jazz, Dungen’s dynamism astounds throughout Skit I Allt . Rather than remain only Ejstes’ studio vision, Dungen is a muscular full band now. Guitarist Reine Fiske, bassist Mattias Gustavsson, and drummer Johan Holmegard are fully integrated into Ejstes’ vision of Dungen: “Whether you perceive Dungen as a band or as me and my songs and my productions, the band is something totally free." I feel [the presence of the band] more than ever, because even if I am a total control freak they all contribute something unique make the songs come alive.” Dungen debuted in 2001 with an eponymous album of long psilocybic tracks and aural tomfoolery. The next year’s Stadsvandringar found Ejstes coming to grips with the language of rock before the zeitgeist-grabbing third album, Ta Det Lugt ignited the blogosphere so that it glowed like the aurora borealis. Not content to revel in such accolades, Tio Bitar flashed the band’s pop smarts as well as their incandescent freakouts while 4 put the band’s cohesiveness on display, at once gorgeous and biting. This latest album is the one that takes in everything they’ve done, and learned, and brings them to a whole. |
DUNGEN: 4 (Subliminal Sounds SW 08 SUBCD27) CD Digipack
NEW 125:- Dungen's fourth studio album extends the acclaimed Swedish outfit's sound past psychedelia into something far more rare. Moving beyond mere stylistic concerns, 4 finds Gustav Ejstes' focus on the extremes of Dungen's sound separating into two entities. Blazing, raw guitar workouts have their own time and place, but now, so do stirringly orchestrated, jazz-cooled compositions with cinematic undertones. Bandleader Gustav Ejstes has made many allusions to his creative process as it likens to that of a hip-hop producer. On 4, that process is more evident than ever, both in the feel of each piece, and in the sense of intuition and control within the members of the group. New drummer Johan Holmegard joins guitarist Reine Fiske and bassist Mattias Gustavsson, while Ejstes steps away from guitar for the entire album, focusing on the piano as his lead instrument. Together, they have honed a classic and seamless sound, constructed with lavish studio flourishes and moving, narrative arrangements, and yet able to toughen up to tear veins of fierce blues-psych instrumentals up from the surface. The ten tracks on 4 comprise Dungen's most concentrated effort to date, beats surging forth and atmosphere changing as their sound continues to evolve. Every song here runs under five minutes, pushing the group to introduce confident melodies and arresting ambiance in tighter frameworks. Gauging from the results, this challenge has done them well. Included in this set are live favorite "Mina Damer och Fasaner," excerpts from a wild psychedelic jam session entitled "Samtidigt", and a storming, Northern Soul-influenced instrumental entitled "Fredag". These stand tall with some of the most fully-realized moments of Dungen's career; percolating prog-pop groover "Det Tar Tid" and eloquent opener "Satt At Se. With a penchant for lush pop portraits, and laced with orange sunshine guitar flash, 4 turns a page in Dungen's sound and story. |

MERRELL FANKHAUSER: Maui CD (SUBXMCD-3 1997) NEW 40:- The band MU was formed in 1969 when Merrell Fankhauser teamed up with Jeff Cotton of Captain Beefheart’s band. Both of them had had successful careers in the surf music craze of the mid-60s. When it was discovered that the Hawaiian Islands could have remnants of the sunken Mu civilization, the band decided to move to the island of Maui. But by 1974 all but Merrell Fankhauser had left for the mainland. Merrell was now staying with his girlfriend violinist Mary Lee in the two story Tarzan style jungle house which Merrell had built, complete with flowing lily ponds. The stream cascaded around the house forming a natural pool and waterfall, an ideal setting for Merrell to compose his laid back cosmic music. Around this same time the Tibetan Lama Kar Mapa came to the island for a meditation retreat that was sponsored by one of Merrell and Mary’s neighbors in the jungle. They did a special Black Crow ceremony with 400 devoted hippies all meditating for peace and harmony for all beings on the earth. Merrell and Mary were the first musicians in the United States to play modern music for the Lama. They lived in the Maui rain forest in their jungle retreat for over seven years. Late in 1975 they visited L.A and recorded the Maui Album. The album recording originally started at MCA Studios in Hollywood with producer Dino Airelli who went on to head up Dark Horse Records for George Harrison. Due to Dinos busy schedule he was unable to finish the album. It was later finished in San Francisco and came out on a small independent label Maui Music. It sold a few thousand copies and disappeared. The album is released here in its entirety with 7 bonus tracks including an unreleased version of “Some Of Them Escaped”. This is a true artifact from the Hippy dream of Peace, Love and Harmony for the world! |

ABNER JAY:One Man Band CD (Sub SW) NEW 125:- Did someone say "Outsider Music..."Real People"...well here's the ultimate release for these kinda´ sounds: The ultimate one-man-band wild man from the 1920-1960s Abner Jay was the most unusual music talent the world has ever seen and a true southerner. His original LPs are now sought after and very rare, making this CD reissue very welcome. There is a long line of social and musical experience which constitutes Jay’s tradition: blacks' domestic entertainment inspiring white imitations; in turn stimulating composed, sheet-music idioms for middle-class and professional performance, which then animated younger generations of black musicians. For forty two years Jay worked as a unique one man band where he played electric banjo and swamp guitar, drums, harmonica, and sang at the same time. Abner Jay was the first of the original black musicians and played the only electric six string banjo you'll ever hear. Jay was a native of Fitzgerald, Georgia and was once a traveling performer with the Silas Green Show, one of the last multifaceted road shows on record. Tastes and tolerances of what constitutes acceptable public entertainment are always changing and Jay was part of making idioms which may not in fact have received too much exposure in the daily pressure to captivate audiences by extrovert mannerisms. Singing songs on subjects ranging from LSD to "what's six inches long and has two nuts on the end" you got to hear it to believe it. A true glimpse at some real Americana compiling the best tracks from Abners original LPs. The ultimate in one man bands, outsider artists and swamp blues! NOW ITS BUCK DANCING TIME!. |
KEBNEKAJSE: Idioten (Subliminal Sounds 201) CD 99:-KEBNEKAJSE: Idioten (Subliminal Sounds 2011) LP 180:- The LP is a limited edition 500 copies. Idioten (The Fool) - Kebnekajse unleash a new album in February 2011. Kebnekajse takes folk rock to new heights. Forty years after their debut, the Swedish 70's folk rock pioneers have gathered no moss. Two years after their acclaimed comeback, and proven by countless tours they now present what is perhaps their strongest recordings ever – “Idioten” (The Fool). On the new album Kebnekajse widens views and lets the folk music tone find new forms, free from any tightly held reins. "We wanted to give the folk music new feet. From the vast cannon of ancient Swedish folk songs we wanted to highlight songs that stand out, rare songs that leave room for improvisation and debauchery in the spirit of the psychedelic '70s. With these resolutions the band got into the studio (the same one used for the recording of the latest Dungen album btw) for three sessions of four days each, from May to September. The result was ten new tracks. It’s unlimited music where intricate melodies and distinctive rhythms takes unexpected turns. Electrical. Eclectic. While unified in a dynamic drive. Kebnekajse has deepened the interplay in the last years of touring. In the initial track Barfota (Barefoot) the electric guitar and violin spins melodic sound weaves over pulsating drums, percussion and double basses. Heavy and soft at the same time. Fäbodpslam (Mountain Shack Psalm) breathes beautifully melancholy before the great polska From-Olle (Pious-Olle)whips up a furious pace. Hans & Greta is tight like a music box in the melody interplay while Senpolska (Late Polska) from Hälsingland becomes a drawn-out distorted drone piece ("like a grunt from the deepest of halls of the mountain king"). The musicians also breaks up with jam trips and let’s loose the love of their musical roots. The title track Idioten (The Fool) ("polska not sly on a spot") madly mixes a Hälsingland polska with hard progressive rock. Stockholm Polka get a snorting country feel and the collective Senegal Beat becomes dreamlike Afro-funk psych with a Alpine feel. The closing Norwegian “walking tune” Sangenuten (The Song Without) is connected with a long tail of psychedelia. With Idioten (The Fool) Kebnekajse lifts Swedish folk rock to new heights. And new psychedelic overtones. A short biography for new listeners: During the 1970s Kebnekajse was known as Sweden's highest band. Pioneering and leading among the Swedish instrumental psych/progressive groups. They electrified the folk music and shrugged off the knee-tassel. Instead the hippie-hair flew high on numerous music festivals. They made six albums from their inception from 1971 to 1978, after which they split up. Kebnekajse reunited during the summer of 2001 and in the early spring 2009 they released their critically acclaimed comeback album "Kebnekajse" with pure Swedish folk songs. After this the band has toured widely, and thus in 2011 Sweden’s hardest folk musicians widens the sound with psychedelic folk rock on their new album Idioten (The Fool). |
KEBNEKAJSE (XMLP-SUB26) LP NEW 180:- KEBNEKAJSE (SUBCD26) CD NEW 80:- The highest band in Sweden flies again – Kebnekajse releases a new album! They have been extremely influential and their sound can be hard in most Swedish psych/prog bands, and of course Dungen whos lead guitarist Reine Fiske has been working with recording and production of this album: There’s a rumble in the mountain, the forest swings and sings, the wind grabs tones that meanders high up amongst the clouds. It is time for the troll-dance again…Kebnekajse releases a new album in February 2009. They may be the highest mountain in Sweden but they are known as the highest band in the land. They were pioneers with their instrumental, electrified Swedish folk (fiddler) music. When they unleash their heavy version of Horgalaten at a festival the ring dancing spins around so that the hippie-hair flutter and the knee-tassle starts smoking. Kebnekajse, with Kenny Hakansson, Goran Lagerberg, Mats Glenngard, Thomas Netzler, Hassan Bah och Pelle Ekman, are back on stage and record. Six men loaded with eight new songs recorded in the woods (in the legendary Silence Studio with Anders Lind and Reine Fiske behind the controls) and mixed in the city; electric folk-rock with psychedelic overtones. |

LIFE ON EARTH!: A Space Water Loop (SUBCD28 2009) CD 40:-LIFE ON EARTH!: A Space Water Loop (XMLP-SUB31 2009) LP 180:- The follow-up to the acclaimed debut ”Look!! There is Life on Earth!” The first album was something of a journey past summer green hills and skipping lambs; a celebration of the imperishable eternal beauty and a romantic observation of the world around us. Now the telescope is turned inside out. The focus is on the captain of the project, Mattias Gustavsson's own world. Confusion and contradiction are found in the front stalls, visions of ecstasy next to battles with demons and defunct relationships. The drums are given more space, and a Hammond organ has found its way along the layered vocals and languorousstring arrangements. But even though the sound has grown both harder and bigger, the album is a natural follow-up with equal parts sound experimentation, folk and classic psychedelic pop, based on an acoustic guitar. Besides Life on Earth!, Mattias Gustavsson, among other things, plays the bass in Dungen and is currently producing a coming album with Lisa & Piu. Other members of Life on Earth! are Martin Fogelström, Alexis Benson, Erik Lundin and Johan Holmegard (Dungen). On the album yet another ten or so guests help out as well. Just like the last time the cover paintings and collages were made by New York artists and Lights members Sophia Knapp and Wizard Smoke. The album got its title from Knapp's collage “A Space Water Loop”. |

LISA o PIU: Behind the Bend (Subliminal Sounds SUB-072-CD 2010) CD NEW 40:- Brand new album from this bewitching Swedish folk siren and her band. This is the follow up to last years critically acclaimed debut album “When this was the future”. To get inspiration for the creation of the new album “Behind the Bend” Lisa spent time in a small cottage located deep in the vast woods of Vastmanland, Sweden, where she enjoyed the last breath of the summer. Every evening she and David walked further in to the woods to an old rowing boat that lay on the edge of a forest lake. In the light of the magically ever glowing Swedish summer midnight sun they paddled across the lake and then further along a forest creek with lush green trees that hangs down over the fresh running water and water lilies. This is the kind of set and setting where you travel into another world….and they did. The initial recordings were made under a vaulted blue ceiling with gold stars in the old 15th century timber church of Hjulsjo, Sweden. The new album is filled with delicious and bewitching watery woodland folk hymnals, eloquent yet eerie. The harp has been given more space, the violin plays a greater role, the twelve-stringed guitar plays graceful melodies and all is led by Lisa's gossamer vocals, as delicate as a wavering candle flame. Come along for the ride. The LP is a limited edition of 500 copies and the CD limited 1200 copies worldwide. |

ATTILIO MINEO: Man in Space with Sounds (SUB-081-LP) NEW 220:-Limited edition of 500 copies only. Recorded in 1951 but only released in conjunction with the 1962 Seattle World's Fair as the musical accompaniment to the Bubbelator, a transparent, spherical elevator that carried as many as 150 passengers, Attilio Mineo's Man in Space with Sounds remains one of the most foreboding and complex records in the cosmic exotica canon. A dark, dissonant exploration of interstellar travel rooted in the avant-garde ethos of Cage and Stockhausen, this is music that's alien not only in its presentation but also in its orientation, fusing traditional instrumentation and sound effects to the point that one becomes indistinguishable from the other. Electronic elements pulse, hum, and sputter their way to complete domination of Mineo's sonic palette, depicting a bleak, sterile future where mankind gives way to machinery. Man In Space With Sounds is one of those legendary LPs. A rare souvenir of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, this music served as the soundtrack to a ride called the Bubbleator, which transported fair visitors through an overview of the future, a technological utopia where science and space travel promised solutions to all of humanity’s plights. Needless to say, that future never arrived and this music (actually recorded in the early 1950s) still sounds as futuristic today as it must have back then. The all-original compositions fall somewhere between nervous Philip Glass and 1950s sci-fi movie music, arranged with string orchestra in a sometimes rhythmic, polyrhythmic, or merely ambient cloud of odd electronic space noises. Despite its intended technological optimism, the music is quite heavy and menacing, and the future ultimately feels pretty scary. Regardless, this recording proves Attilio Mineo to have been an unbelievably progressive and underappreciated composer and arranger. The amazing aural and visual content of this endearing package transcend everything. A rare, sought-after gem made accessible as a facsimile, with added bonus photos, in a limited pressing of 500 copies. Packaged for collectors by collectors. |
MYLLA: Vanya (Subliminal Sounds SUBCD19 2007) 30:- The mythical speakeasy BC was located somewhere in Stockholm’s southern suburbs. A slushy and cold January night. In a cave, down in the cellar. The rook is filled with heavy, blue smoke and sweaty intoxicated bodies, filled with a longing for life, a longing for a feast. All of them wants to have a break in the weekday, drink a beer and jam. But something ignites, something backfires. The music is released from the introvert jamming and evolves in to a full feathered feast. More friends flow in and the feast and the music grows forth. Endorphins rains down heavily. The feast finally turns into a steaming night train that nobody can stop. Mylla (Mylla means “mould/earth” in Swedish) grew out of that feast, an everlasting feast. 2 years later. A quivering hot Gotlandish summer. A butterfly hatches out of it’s cocoon. The clothes are thin, light or not at all. It’s vacation time and it’s party time and it’s a recording time. The friends gather and more friends turn up. When the summer has melted the ice in the bodies and when beer and pipe both has cooled off and overheated the spirit the party reaches a new phase. Out of the Mylla grows a tree. During a week the summer 2007 the loft in a limestone cottage became a recording studio by day and a dance floor by night. The feast and the creativity had free reign. At this place and in this condition Myllas debut album was created. A beautiful experience, a brutal experience. Mylla grew out of the mythical speakeasy BC, in a context where also both the Works and Dungen figured. After intensive gigging at clubs they recorded their debut album at the Faro island (a secluded island far out in the Baltic Sea known by sailors for centuries as the “White Hawaii”. The island Faro has been closed for all foreigners up until a few years ago as it contains several top secret army bases) in June 2007. It was as much party and dance as recording. This is a feeling that permeates the whole record and it is this feeling that is Mylla. The band consists of a bunch of friends and is a mix of experienced musicians and some that never has stood on a stage before Mylla was formed. Just as you invite friends to a feast so has Mylla also invited several friends to contribute to the to the album, among others Gustav Ejstes from Dungen and the word artist Lasse Fabel. Mylla consists of: Choban, who plays bass guitar. Swahno, who plays electric guitar. Sebbe, who plays acoustic guitar and sing. Roban plays organ and sing. Psychedelic Eric plays flute. Krippa plays drums. Bockarn plays piano and sing. |

ÅKE SANDIN: Forlorad I Toner (Lost In the Tones) (Subliminal Sounds SW) NEW 40:- Subliminal Sounds has the honor to present a very special release that‚s mainly geared towards a Swedish audience, with most lyrics and all liner notes in Swedish, but might be of interest to serious collectors of „real people/incredibly strange music Ake Sundin was a unique personality in the Swedish music business of the 1960s. A real outsider musician‰ who artistically did what ever he wanted to without any cares for critiques or prevalent musical norms. During the last ten years he has become a cult legend among the few Swedish musical journalists and musicians who has been able to find or at least hear his incredibly rare records from the 1960s. In 1965 he started his own record company, jay Records, financed by the meager income from his work at the post office. Jay Records released loads of records between the years 1964-1970, most of them with Ake himself. He paid for costly recordings in top studios with big orchestras and even rented the finest concerts halls for his performances. Practically nobody bought his records or showed up at his concerts and every time he tried do something he only got laughed at. His magnum opus was his LP record released in 1968 which was housed in a „cooking proof‰ cloth sleeve! On the record he criticize, in his own incomparable way, the Swedish music industry and the pop music of the day. Ake ended his days in this world as a roller skiing cloth salesman and after his death the Swedish government actually had all his belongings, including all his records, destroyed and burnt! Stefan Kéry, weird musical archeologist, has now succeeded in saving and displaying this musical treasure. His record company Subliminal Sounds has even received a grant from the Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs, the same government body who also sponsored the Parson Sound 2 CD, to release this retrospective CD. The whole Ake Sandin LP and his ultra rare 45s are all included on this definitive release. Due to the popularity of Swedish outsider artists like the Elvis impersonator extraordinaire Eilert Pilarm and books like Irwin Chusid’s book „Songs In the Key of Z‰ people are becoming more aware and interested in the „outsider music‰ phenomena. It is now time to unleash Sweden‚s most acclaimed artist in the outsider changer. Meet Ake Sandin, the Ed Wood of Swedish 60s music, on the Lost In Tones CD. Nothing will ever be the same afterwards. |

ST MIKAEL: Mind of Fire LP (XMLP-SUB22) NEW 200:- Vinyl LP version housed in a gatefold sleeve + printed inner bag. S.T. MIKAEL: Mind of Fire (SUBCD22 2007) NEW 30:- Incredibly enough, but very naturally, after 11-years silence here’s a new album by this mysterious and legendary Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist. S.T. Mikael spearheaded the DIY psychedelic rock/folk movement of the late 1980s-mid-90s, with a collection of mind-bending albums. During his long absence S.T Mikael grew more secretive and reclusive, but all the while he was still writing music. Now that he’s finally back here’s at last a chance for to join in to his psychedelic world again. The music, stretching out in many different musical directions, has been done freely and spontaneously in an extremely relaxed and happy environment, where Mikael joined forces with Dungen’s Reine Fiske and Fredrik Björling, who’s musical expertise now also grace the grooves. These otherworldly acid tripper recordings now exists in the real world and ST Mikael, proves, once again, to be a gifted songwriter and an unconventional performer with a very personal ear for acoustics and an emotional honesty seldom seen these days. Folk rocky melodic elements flow with waves of heavy fuzzphase leads, weird detached haunted vocal echoes over the band and the whole thing seems to teeter on the brink of psychedelic oblivion. Not revival either but purely of the now. You do get the feeing that Mikael actually lives the lifestyle rather than just emulating it. His soaring vocals, surreal lyrics, fragile, folky melodies, heavy fuzz riffs, mind bending soul funk and penchant for the spiritual and mystical make this altogether a fascinating voyage that is so mind twisting, soul swirling, upper psychedelic that your third eye takes you on a joyride thru an altered state! This album makes your brain start thinking in those pebble splash pond mind circular expanding waveforms that people on this vibe await the returning ship their roots sent out to bring back the password to tomorrow. This is part one of a suite of two separate albums. The CD also contains 9 previously unreleased vintage recordings and a unique spoken introduction by Mikael. Limited edition of 2,000 copies only. |
THE STOMACHMOUTHS: Born Losers (Subliminal SW re) NEW 40:- "A wild trip with the original Swedish garage punk" The Swedish garage punk rock boom really began back in the 1980s. One of the pioneering bands were the Stomachmouths who road the crest of the 80s garage wave between the years 1984 - 1987 becoming one of the leading Swedish exponent of the genre at the time. They toured Europe several times with their wailing fuzz guitars, screeching Farfisa organ , caveman drums, thumping bass and ultra snotty vocals on full throttle, performing some of the wildest shows ever witnessed. But after three years of endless travels and partying the hectic lifestyle had taken it‚s toll on the band and they all scattered in different directions. But their musical influence lived on and is now strongly felt in current Swedish bands although none of the Stomachmouths records have ever been reissued on CD before. This CD compilation sets this right presenting all the essential Stomachmouths releases - now with the bands own wyld original 80s mixes. So even if you own their vinyl releases you‚ll want to groove on how the band actually sounded and was originally intended. Lots of groovy and previously unreleased bonus tracks, 20-page booklet with extensive liner notes giving a first hand inside peak at the 1980s mop top scene + lots of photos etc. 70 minutes of the original wyld and untamed garage punk from Sweden. |
JADE STONE & LUV: Mosaics; Pieces of Stone LP (Subliminal Sounds 08) NEW 200:- Limited edition of 500 copies exact reissue of the original but including a rare 45 cut + gatefold sleeve and colour innerbag with liner notes. JADE STONE & LUV: Mosaics; Pieces of Stone CD (Subliminal Sounds 08) NEW 30:- The sole album from male-female duo Jade Stone & Luv is a lost gem from the heart of the psychedelic 1970s. Composed and self-produced in Nashville, “Mosaics; Pieces Of Stone” went unnoticed by the music industry upon release. Fortunately for us, it didn’t disappear forever, but simply went into retreat, biding its time. While almost unknown outside specialist circles, “Mosaics” has been an underground cult favorite for many years. The combination of top-level songwriting, skillful guitar/keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals is just too impressive to ignore. And beyond these obvious qualities, the album has something subtle and unique, a magnetic power that keeps drawing the listener back. One of Jade Stone & Luv’s earliest advocates was the legendary New York City musicologist Paul Major. Here’s a typical Major impression of the music on “Mosaics”:"Groovy love vibes thru a prism of jade statues in swinging singles apartment complex action... Cadillac with fuzzy dice, feather boa, lotsa cigarette burns, stale perfumed ashen air. This album in the 8-track player at 5 AM with someone you don't even know passed out in the backseat, as you head to the diner to meet up with an early-bird Lava Lite salesman who deals pills on the side. Bubbly champagne molecules become the plastic vinyl booths in dim-lit dive bars; it's crackerbox post-war suburban low-rent psychedelic…" The album’s cinematic qualities were also highlighted in a review in the recent Acid Archives book, which deals with vintage underground music:“…The music is notoriously hard to describe, but projects scenes of all-night cruising through Edge City... a hip which is not metropolitan hip, but dreams of stardom and glamour from the American underbelly, two renegade souls zooming down the highway between Austin and Nashville...”After 30 years, this rare experience is finally available for general consumption. Done in collaboration with Jade Stone himself. Contains 10 bonus cuts and booklet with liner notes and photos. |

TRÄD GRÄS OCH STENAR: Gärdet 12.6.1970 2xLP (SUB-075-LP) NEW 300:- Limited edition of 500 copies only 2x LP No doubt one of the best recordings of legendary Swedish psych-rockers Trad Gras Och Stenar. (Other Music) Recorded in June 12 1970 and the sound is just amazing: a stoned lysergic wall of acid guitars jamming away and never letting up, pounding bass, furious drums and mystical howling vocals. THE WORKS (Subliminal Sounds SW) NEW 30:- We're very happy to presents a new and fantastic, and truly psychedelic, Swedish band: The Works. (The Works are also closely linked with Dungen, their lead singer and guitarist Andreas handled the bass playing for Dungen on their latest NYC trip, and several Dungen members guest the Works debut album). It is rare to come across a band that can straddle that vast canyon between serial debauch and fierce, exacting professionalism. The Works from Stockholm, Sweden, however are just such a band and they come over like young goggle-eyed virtuosos from some weird Scandinavian conservatoire where ergot, as well as hours of practice, is on the curriculum. How apt then that lead singer/guitarist Andreas began The Works with rhythm guitarist Martin while both were attending the Stockholm School of Music. Six years later (and after a couple of line-up changes) they've consolidated a quintet, all of whom are individually singer/songwriters who play many instruments, hence the depth and intricacy of their sound. Even drummer Johan, who possesses the clattering bombast of a Keith Moon, dedicated 2 whole years of his young life to studying drumming in Cuba. Musically they're saturated in many influences and yet there's something much bigger in there, something unnamable, some element that's hard-wired into their psychically-linked nervous systems. The Works are transcending their influences, becoming more themselves and no one else. Take the Nordic acid test and jack up on The Works. |
