REAL WEIRDNESS / SPOKEN WORD etc LP

ADDICTS: Sing (Word US 65) M-/Vg 250:-
Still in shrink and including the original Word inner bag. Totally bizarre and perfectly frame able item as you wont really be listening to it…but what a sleeve! These "nine former addicts" toured the U.S. in a van and gave impromptu and ad-libbed performances of their personal lives of junkiedom (and their subsequent spiritual rejuvenation) in whatever spaces would have them. Through 11 tracks (including The Addicts March and You Are the Finger of God) we get nine ill-matched voices trying to harmonize and if you can imagine going to a baseball or hockey game and selecting nine people from the stands during the national anthem, then you already know what this will sound like. As the liner notes say, in a kind way: "The record has about it a crudeness that cannot be described...". Above the block of liner notes on the reverse of the sleeve we have a photo of the band perched on top of and around their van; to the far left of this and reaching nearly top-to-bottom of the jacket is a simple line-drawing of an extended arm about to receive the spike of a horse-loaded needle from the other hand.   The imperfections of the vinyl product are overshadowed (eclipsed, trapped in a coalmine at midnight, etc) by the beautifully surreal cover-art, art which is bordering unknowingly on self-parody, and unsurpassed in it's genre.

YOGI ADONAIASIS: Gettingittogether (Universal Awareness US) rw stoc ss Vg+++/Ex 600:-
Here's a special one to kick off this little list. Private press double LP from a seriously weirded out guru character . The only mystic kinda magic man doing a groovy but seriously fucked up lounge routine I've ever heard. First side is his mystical "deep" rap complete with over the top echo effects going berserk, then we get three sides live in the living room for the old ladies he suckered out of their money with seances and what not....lots of weird photos inside the gatefold sleeve of the proceedings. Seems like the songs they do is linked together in his mystical teachings, at least in his fried mind. Music is really groovy with steady drum beats and his vocal efforts are over the top linking this one to the likes of Yahowa 13 and Archesia. Seems he used to be a gigolo before he turned Yogi and found the way. And yeah, it's a friggin' double LP with a full color gatefold sleeve. Got to be seen and heard to be believed...one of a kind weirdness. Far out man!

BABY LU-LU (A-Turney US 7?)srw Vg+++/Ex OFFERS
The scariest and most bizarre Christian “real people” album ever made. Nothing tops this ultra rare monster!!!

GOLDEN JOE BAKER: Live at the Brothers 4 (Private US) rw Ex/Ex 400:-
Weird and beautiful, fat, balding guy makes he's dream come through vanity pressing. The sleeve is priceless with him in a silver suit and mantel on top of the Brothers 4 pub. Very rare private press that delivers the goods.

THE BLUE'S MEN - Prohibido Prohibir (Mystic Re) NEW 130:-
So you thought you heard it all? Well, I bet you haven't heard this one! The Blue's Men were from Argentina and their sole LP release is the rarest 60s beat/garage /weirdo release from over there. The Blue's Men's sound is great garage rock with deranged bursts of fuzztone guitar and bizarre lyrics (in English) with song titles like "The Day the World Fried My Brain" and "Reflections of a Sun Freakout"! This might lead you to think it's psych smaltz but no, no, no it's garage rock and deranged stuff from hell, with a lead singer sounding like Elvis o.d'ing on cough syrup! A one of a kind monster record you need real bad! 10" Ltd 500 copies.

TUBBY BOOTS: Goes Topless (Syl-len US) rw tobc Vg+/Vg++ 300:-
Legendary cross-dressing comedian sings. What a cover and autographed too! See the Incredibly Strange Music books for more info.

J.D. BRENNAN and GOLD FEVER: Stratosphere (Scyne US 89) M-/M- 700:-
J.D. BRENNAN + GOLD FEVER: Guitar Slinger
(Scyne US 90) M-/M- 700:-
The two rarest and way most desirable by this amazing 50 year old "real people" rocker who manage to sneak in a powerful psychedelic edge to his echoed rockabilly twist, garagey hot guitars, loner vocals, barband sleaze, that only adds to the overall haunted lysergic feel. Mr. Brennan plays a mean guitar and sings and is backed by a full band called Goldfever. This is real emotional, the guy really puts himself on the line and sings and plays as if every note would be his last. The LPs were done in pressings of 200 copies only. Some copies were around 15 years ago but are now long gone.

TEDDY BURNS: Let’s Rock ‘n’ Roll with (Daltona US) Vg++/M- 560:-
Real
rare real people monster here. This guy is nuts...garagy rocking side of originals & side of cover versions with twangin' guitar action from the band and the key element that makes it a hit with strange music collectors is his over the top accented freakout of a vocal style. Will have you rockin' and grinning wildly at the same time. He is a true nut! "Don't Forget Me", "March Twenty First", "Why", "Train Kept A Rollin'" (unbelievably twisted version), "Rockin' All Night", "Wrong Yo Yo", "Gone Gone Gone" etc. Fab cover pic of him in leather suit & shades on his Daltona label # DSLP 1000-1 from 1977. If you want your rock & roll bent & unhinged he's your man! Friends flipout when they hear him! You will not believe his vocal style, it is demented to the max! Cover has mildew on opening slit front and back…but no active culture.

WINSTON CHURCHILL: I Can Hear It Now (Columbia US) rw stoc ssVg+/Vg++ 45:-

CINCINNATI JOE & MAD LYDIA (River Witch US 71) srw Ex/Ex 1300:-
Legendary, special and unique higherkey "real people" LP  that goes all over the map from psych to funk femme folkpsych all with their own perspective and filtered through a half empty Holiday Inn lounge vibe. Quit unexplainable but very enjoyable.

CONTE FOUR: Music For Your Dancing Pleasure (Private US) M-M- 300:-
In shrink. Some consider this to be the greatest weird lounge rock albums ever. Absolutely brilliant version of Jimmy Buffett's "Margaritaville" leads things off, and makes me wonder why more lounge bands didn't cover this tune.  Also a fantastic “Shangrila” etc. This band is now legendary and the drummer has some really tasty loud fills if you are so inclined.

TROY CORY: Todays Puzzle Vol II (Cinema Prize US)tofc rw ss Vg+/Vg+++ 120:-
Some kind of TV personality? Makes a strange and haunting late 60s lounge LP. The sleeve with him and several beautiful ladies makes no sense and the title vol 2 is also weird as no one has ever heard of a vol 1. A twilight zone lounge mystery.

JIM COYLE & MAL SHARPE: The Absurd Imposter (WB US) Ex/Ex 300:-
Some of my favorite comedy records. These guys lure un-expecting passers by in to totally surrealistic conversations.

JAN DAVIS & THE FLAMENCO BOOGIE BAND: Flamenco U.S.A (CamBria US) Ex/M- 200:-
Pretty much unknown early 70s oddity with some massive rare grooves that will make DJ happy

FLIGHT F-I-N-A-L: A Dramatic Comparison To Death  (Word US) ss rw wol Vg+++/Vg+++ 250:-
Bizarre and unusual X-ian afterlife drama using a commercial airline flight as the vehicle to the great beyond. This was released around 1965 and was written and produced by evangelist Forrest McCullough. Surreal and hilarious stuff!

FROM BRITAIN WITH BEAT (Modern Sounds US) soc ss tobc Vg/G+ 200:-
Here‚s the absolute worst 60s British invasion, Beatles rip-off lp from USA. The sleeve is worth framing as it is so ridiculous. 4 guys in longhair wigs, guitars and drums goofing about in front of a brick wall. It is so phony you wont believe it. Rare.

FYFTH: Here Comes the.. (RPC US) rwobc wobc ss Vg+++/Ex+ 450:-
Wonderfully stark and cruelly recorded teenage harmony folk rarity on this custom label. Weird loner folk version of “Light My Fire is a high point and their extremely spooky and satanic tako on “Sinner Man” will blow your mind. Also a Dylan cover. Some female lead vocals and a few interesting band originals. Should interest RPC, basement folk and weirdo collectors alike.  The band photo is amazing and very scary.

HEARTBEAT LULLABY (Private US) ss srw Ex/Ex 140:-

DR. JACK VAN IMPE: Hell Without Hell (Diadem US) ss rw wobc Vg++/Ex 250:-
Jack Van Impe is an American televangelist based in Michigan whose main basic message is the world will end sometime soon. Van Impe has been called the "Walking Bible" for his ability to memorize all of the Bible verses and to come up with a Bible verse to fit the sermon or message he is delivering. This album with it’s apocalyptic fire and brimstone sermon was released sometimes in the mid-1960s. Amazing artwork too.

ANNA-LISA INGEMANSON (ALJ SW 73) Ex-/Ex- 500:-
Really rare incredibly strange “Sunkit-style” private press monster album from Sweden early 70s. Anna-Lisa Ingemanson (1909 - 2003) was a pedicurer who loved music in general and singing in particular. Devoted as she was, she recorded and released a lot of music in true D.I.Y. fashion. With total lack of rhythmic sense - and singing voice - she fearlessly took on popular music gems and made them her own. The hired musicians politely asked not to be credited on the album sleeves. No wonder. Like a little tone deaf angel she takes the lyrics far away from the melody that stops existing after a minute. A fantastic and natural entertainer

JIGGERS: Story Time (Jiggers Story Hour US) ss rw Vg++/Vg+600:-
Top of the heap for Xian ventriloquist LPs. This weird rarity

KENNETH C. KITTENGER, Ph.D. : New Philosophy (IUT US) srw Vg++/Vg+++ 80:-
"A discovery of The Mind presented to the world. A new philosophy to alter the war spirit in man. A cranium shake-up presented by clinical psychologist Kenneth C. Kittinger" Weird "relaxing" spoken word LP from the early 60s with a great weird sleeve.

LITTLE MARCY: Marcy Sings (Word US) ss rw Vg+++/Vg+ 130:-
”Ventriloquism + evangelism = religion for dummies. Scariest is the notion that the target is innocent children. Insidious or ridiculous, puppets indeed have been used to lure the too-young-to-resist into the ways of blind faith. This is not okay. What is Little Marcy?  Failed trombonist & singer Marcy Tigner, Evangelical, child ventriloquist act,  Star of Word, Zondervan records & film,  Model for a doll, hand puppet, etc. Yes, all of these.  A native of Wichita, Kansas, Marcy Tigner studied piano and trombone as a child, eventually making it to the Portland, Oregon Junior Symphony. An avid Christian, she determined to sing gospel and went through three voice teachers before her husband Everett suggested she exploit, rather than try to improve, her "child-like" voice. Her debut record was a hit within her church circuit, but she felt a little weird singing with her child's voice. With help from Miss America 1965 Vonda van Dyke, she developed the kiddie-ventriloquism act.  What is the latter-day appeal of Marcy records? Like Heino, voice of Germany as the rest of the world would rather it not be, Marcy has something scary and repressive to say. That she ever inspired real children is irrelevant, at least compared to the sneakiness of using a childlike device to evangelize. The medium is the message, and the medium is nightmarish. Compared to the Maranatha crowd and other "shepherding" churches (really cults, mostly on the West Coast), Marcy records are fairly harmless. But one has to wonder the effect on children of material that never fails to clear a room of sentient, critically thinking adults. It sounds horrible. The message mostly is horrible. The cuteness is horrible. Little Marcy is horrible. There are other albums of this type which may be even worse, but Marcy is the most prevalent. Approach with caution.” – from Hyp Records

MARPLE–NEWTON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL BAND AND CHORUS: 1972 Sound Odyssey (Private US 72) rw ss Ex/Ex 350:- Needle in a haystack killer junior marching band record with stand-out brain blower version of “oye como va”. Total bigt fave over here. Don’t miss if this is the stuff your after.

MARTY & ELAYNE: Jazz Superstars (Enterprise US) wofc Ex/M- 350:-
Now rare LP by this incredibly strange lounge jazz bossa duo who has been entertaining at the suave 1940s lounge the Dresden Room in Hollywood for the last 18 years. Decked out in gold lamé or flashy sequins, this duet's pulse-pounding energetic act bounces and lingers in the Dresden's dark retro décor. They were featured with an unforgettable performance in the movie "Swingers". They certainly have an strange lounge twilight zone "outsider" sound although they count as their fans everyone from Frank Sinatra to Sean Penn. Front sleeve is autographed by both Marty and Elayne.

RUDY RAY MOORE: Christmas Album (Kent US) S/S 280:-

MYSTERIOUS MINDS: Mind Over Matter (re) M/M 220:-

Superb rare groove all the way, way out psychedelic lyrics but also long instrumental passages AND the worlds only Brass Orchestra Cabinet, a bizarre keyboard contraption built by one of the group members, which is a portable electric pipe unit, sounding like nothing else you ever heard before, and it's used to good measure. LEONARD NIMOY: Two Sides of (DOT US) Ex/M- 280:-
Still in shrink.  It’s 1967 and the original Star Trek show faces cancellation. On this his second album, Nimoy (Mr. Spock) goes deeper into Star Trek self-parody with "Highly Illogical” and "The Difference Between Us." "Spock Thoughts" suggests that a certain pointy-eared Vulcan spent at least some of his time reading posters in West Coast head shops. "Don't forget", Dot reminds us, "He was in Mission Impossible" too! "Once I Smiled" is simply one of the worst songs ever recorded; obviously inspired by "This Side of Paradise" where Spock ingests some groovy spores and lets it all hang out.  "Amphibious Assault" is a thinly disguised anti-Vietnam war protest song. Side Two features one amazing artefact: The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.  Not satisfied with his musical disembowelling of the most popular sci-fi series of all time, Mr. Nimoy turned his substantial talents towards the works of an elderly British fantasy literature writer.  In the course of the 2 minutes 18 seconds of horror that follow, not only is the plot of the entire novel given away but Nimoy knowingly lets the listener in on what Bilbo is really smoking in his pipe down in that wacky hobbit-hole. There is also a bassoon solo. “

LEONARD NIMOY: The Touch of (DOT US) ch ss Ex-/M- 240:-
Still in shrink.  “Cool hippy daze cover art, DOT records isn't even bothering to remind you that Leonard had once had a pre Star-Trek broadway career. The LSD inspired cover is quite fascinating. It looks like Leonard has wandered out into the bush after eating a whole lot of magic mushrooms, and is finding it difficult to make it back through the shrubbery. A really groovy leaf on the tree has caught his eye... The photographer seems to be unaware that a whole lot of vaseline has gotten onto the lense of his camera...Mr. Nimoy is still wearing the same funky outfit that he had on the back cover of "the Way I Feel"...and accidental humour can still be found in a really disturbing rendition of "Nature Boy". Even at this late date, there is a Spock hangover; the odious "Contact". Thank God for plate reverb!”

RICHARD NIXON: Inaugural Adress(CMS US 69) Vg 100:- F.D.R.: The Presidential Years (Decca US)rwVg++/Vg++35:-ERNEST NOYES : Lyrics by Brookings (Shimmy Disc US) NEW 60:- WANDA SCHAFER: An Evening with… (Garden of Eden US 6?) Vg+++/M-  300:-
Fantastic and still unknown outsider lounge act winner.

JOHN RYDGREN: Worlds of Youth (Concordia US) srw Vg+++/Ex- OFFERS
"Mindblowing 1968 LP from John Rydgren in conjunction with Herbert Brokering. Contains 9 spoken word pieces with musical backing, similar in content and style to the Silhouette Segments LP but even rarer. Rydgren's convoluted brilliance is in full form here and it even includes a couple of rare examples of Rydgren singing. This is an extremely cool Christian psych artefacts. "'The legacy of John Rydgren was one of the most enigmatic in radio-jock if not also record history. A Lutheran evangelist, Rydgren started a hit program called Silhouettes. As with Ken Nordine, his thoughts were highly original, ranging from quirky perceptions of the mundane to deep acid-head philosophy. Distributed to free to radio stations, Worlds of Youth and Silhouette Segments never was commercially released because of licensing difficulties. It remains an obscure and treasured memento of the radio program. The LP was given heavy airplay in Vietnam, however. Questioning life's meta assumptions within a reassuring pop context, it was a natural for soldiers. And for everyone its juxtaposition of the antipodes of hip and square continue to blow minds"

SILHOUETTE SEGMENTS (Private 6? re) ss Vg+++/M- 100:-
Long out of print micro press reissue. Incredibly hip and over the top 60s recordings with a weird twist that has remained almost unknown until now. Count on one hand known copies of the original LP among collectors! Somewhat in the style of Ken Nordine, narration by some one with an amazing voice but... backed by super groovy music, sound effects, cut- ups, wild dj:ing from the 60s, garage, psych etc to take you on an incredible turned on journey to hipsville. The ultimate take on "Music to Watch Girls By" , A natural phenomena...watching girls. A special attraction...girls...designed for man by god. "The Hippie Version of Creation", "Search It Out" , the production dramatizes were they are, where they search...cars, a Moonkee concert, the surf, problems...represented by the train, elephants, a trip, and in the middle of all this...the answer they have found. "The Happening". "Dark Side of the Flower". You will never hear anything like it again!

SUE: Songs By… (Private US) M/M 500:-
Still in shrink. original US private mono pressing…late 60s early 70s?. “A very unique recording with a sad story behind it. Sue, we don't learn her last name from the sleeve, was a wheelchair-bound polio victim who at the end of her young life was an Activities Director at a nursing home and an Art Teacher at a parochial school. She must have performed musically at times and some of those performances found their way onto tape. In the aftermath of her passing, Sue's friends and family collected her recordings together and had them committed to vinyl as a lasting tribute to her. This is categorically, found art, there must have been only a few recordings to choose from since some of the recordings are very low fidelity so everything that was found was used. The varying levels of quality act as an unintended aesthetic, imagine a simple musical performance being recorded and re-recorded with only the hardware and sound pickup changing. Once you had the recordings you could sequence them based on their differences and contrasts. That is accidentally what is happening sonically here. Beyond the actual performances by Sue there is an additional layer of sound that has been added, someone decided to add some electronic keyboard orchestral washes to the basic tracks. These are heard with the same presence from track to track but again this consistency plays against the widely varying fidelity of the found recordings by Sue. Sue must have had very loving friends for them to have created this living testament to her life. The back cover is a further expression of that love; here someone has created an elaborate ink drawing using the name "Sue" as it's principle graphic building block. Amazing!! Very special loner folk here.

TINKERS: Relax with…

Weirdo vanity pressing by artistic couple lost in the twilight zone.

GILL TRYTHALL: Country Moog (Pandora/Synthe US) Ex/Ex150:-
Moog -- with a twang! Excellent album by the enigmatic Gil Trythall -- a moog musician who turned his talents towards the sound of 60s Nashville, with some incredible results! The format is simple -- take country hits, strip them down, and fill them with cool electronics and moogy bits -- so that they come out sounding as if they were recorded by Perry & Kingsley after getting drunk at a line dancing party. Tracks are a good mix of originals and covers.

GLENN W. TURNER: Speaks Out "You Can Better Your Best" (Souncot US) ss Vg+++/Ex 150:-
Hilarious motivational record from the 1960s by a self made man with a speech impediment caused by a harelip.
