PSYCH/PROG/GARAGE HEAVY/ FUNK etc LP

the amazing - gentle stream The Amazing the amazing

THE AALTOS: In Scandinavia (ECR SW)  M-/M- 1400:-
Very rare (you see their other albums sometime but not this one) and unique album by Finnish family of two brothers and sisters who recorded and had this one released in Sweden. They later emigrated (or fled depending on the storyteller) to the US when the Swedish Maranatha church was scandalously exposed and their leader prosecuted. This album is their acknowledged best and it features some amazingly haunting “garage folk psych” sung in English. No hype and for the right well travelled ears this one really delivers deep psychedelic emotions. Lat night favourite in my pad always. The gatefold sleeve is of course also fantastic adding to the vibe and looking satanically sinister.

AC/DC: High Voltage (Albert 74 Australia) 350:-
Early original pressing of their awesome debut album from 1974 with absolute killer guitars and vocals. ‘High Voltage’ was never reissued by another label in this format. A High Voltage album was released internationally on Atlantic Records in 1976 with a different cover and was in fact a compilation of the original Australian edition and its follow-up, the Australia-only T.N.T. album. Despite its title, the overseas issued High Voltage features only two tracks from the original: "She's Got Balls" and "Little Lover". HIGH VOLTAGE introduced the world to the raw power of Australia's hard rock outfit. From their earliest days, lead guitarist Angus Young, a spastic dwarf-like riff-monger who wore nothing but traditional schoolboy attire, led this band of hooligans with gleeful perversity and balls-out ambition. The group's intent is perfectly clear from the disc's opening power chords: to distil rock and mutate the blues down to its barest essentials in a pulverizing whomp. Riding over the top of the battering rhythm section is the all-too-true sneer of vocalist Bon Scott, who brings sexist anthems to a previously unachieved high (or low, depending on your reference point). With over-the-top show-stoppers about "She's Got Balls" and the equally nut-crunching treatment of Them's "Baby, Please Don't Go" this album is not for the faint of heart and gave metal fans a template of the brand of molten lava the band would later weld into perfection.

PAUL ADOLPHUS: THE DAWN WIND (Shadoks re) NEW 420:-

ALICE COOPER: Pretties for you (Straight UK 69) Ex/Ex 2500:-
Way underrated Arizona psychedelic speed freak debut from 69. An unique item as it’s actually Signed by Alice Cooper on back and without a date which he rarely does now adays! He did this for me long ago more details if your really interested in the item. Rare UK original 1st pressing with the uncensored cover. Originally a commercial failure like the majority on this highly collectable Frank Zappa label. Quickly deleted. More often seen as a US import and most of them on Warner Brothers. This original British issue has the E. J. Day cover and the uncensored panties front cover. The ultra sensitive US market would not allow this cover to be seen without a sticker covering the girls knickers.  –So most of these covers that surface are seen with a sticker cover-up or damaged where the owner’s tried in vain to remove the sticker to see what was beneath. Vincent Damon Furnier, better known to the world as Alice Cooper, a name initially given to just the band but adopted quickly for the band’s leader and vocalist. This debut album was a commercial flop, just scraping into the US charts briefly and selling a mere handful in the UK where few were even made and quickly deleted. Musically this is early acid-psych era Alice, sounding very different to the slick glam-rock-horror act they later became famous for.

ALICE COOPER: Billion Dollar Babies + Alice Cooper Special Concert Edition Book
(WB US 73) ss 450:-
Original 1st Pressing Warner Green label. Includes the Billion Dollar Bill, Photograph Set and original picture innersleeve that are all in great shape. THE AMAZING: Gentle Stream
(SUB-084-LP 2011) vinyl LP NEW 180:-
The Amazing fell far from the tree. A natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallising into a folk-rock-psych-pop-collective slowly pus
hing, bending, then playing with any preconceived notions of pop.  When a band take a name like The Amazing, they’d better be have the chops to back it up. Happily, this Swedish outfit – a collective headed by Reine Fiske of psych juggernauts Dungen and singer-songwriter Christoffer Gunrup – are masterful enough to take that mantle on. Friends first and foremost, it’s this kindred spirit that imbues the band album with a feeling unlike that of most releases – one of natural harmony, persistent progression and with a panoramic gaze fixed on distant settings. The band’s second album proper (following 2009’s The Amazing and 2010’s mini album Wait For A Light To Come),  Excerpts from reviews of the debut: “The cream of Sweden's psychedelic/neo-folk underground… an album of rare beauty” MOJO. “A gorgeously understated blend of gentle psychedelic pop, tranquil folk rock and gently stoned prog” Q. “Genuinely an amazing album” UNCUT. “A classic case of strength in diversity, blurring the boundaries between folk-rock dreaminess and psych splendour”  WORD. Gentle Stream is widescreen, panoramic, horizon-reaching stuff. An elegantly constructed record of moody psychedelic majesty, it comes with a greater dose of CSNY-style Laurel Canyon bliss than those previous recordings. Its eight songs clock in at a luxurious 45 minutes long, during which astral guitars intertwine in serpentine solos, horns blast rainbow melodies and Gunrup’s flute-like voice floats elegantly over the sunset sounds. Nothing is introverted or overworked – everything is balanced, kept together by natural melodies, soulful vocals and just how perfect should be. Gentle Stream is a feeling, an organic consequence of something that effortlessly came together. The line-up completed by Johan Holmegard, Fredrik Swahn, Alexis Benson and highly rated jazz musicians Moussa Fadera and Jonas Kullhammar, The Amazing recorded the new LP in Stockholm, Sweden and formed plans to collect themselves in this incredible unison. There are doubtless stories to be told. Including the one about playing a show for the Swedish Royal Family and Pink Floyd, where in the crowd Roger Waters appreciatively caught a bouquet thrown from the band during a standing ovation, but this mysterious band hold one principle dear to their hearts: “The music speaks for itself”.

The Amazing: Wait for A Light to Come (Subkiminal Sounds) LP NEW 160:-
The vinyl is limited to 1,000 copies worldwide. Brand new recordings of Swedish Folk-Rock-Psych-Pop perfection. The Amazing fell far from the tree. A natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallising into a folk-rock-psych-pop- collective slowly pushing, bending then playing with any preconceived notions of pop. Friends first and foremost, it’s this kindred spirit that imbues the band’s debut with a feeling unlike that of most releases – one of natural harmony, persistent progression and with a panoramic gaze fixed on distant settings. Their 2009 debut album has received unanimous critical acclaim worldwide. Some excerpts:
the cream of Sweden's psychedelic/neo-folk underground…an album of rare beauty" MOJO 4/5 'Swedish underground supergroup’s debut suggests the dusty riches of some long-lost LP locked away in psychedelic folk-rock Valhalla.' SPIN "a sublime debut... genuinely an amazing album" UNCUT 4/5 "The Amazing's first is a gorgeously understated blend of gentle psychedelic pop, tranquil folk rock, and gently stoned prog" Q 4/5 "a classic case of strength in diversity, blurring the boundaries between folk-rock dreaminess and psych splendour" WORD This is their follow up a new mini-album with an all-encompassing sonic soundscape of groovy electric folk rock, psychedelic pop and heavy jams. The core musicians in The Amazing are Christoffer Gunrup, Reine Fiske, who doubles as the lead guitar wizard in Dungen and who’s solos so furiously it’s as if something’s trapped inside him that must be turned into melody or he’ll burst into flames, Johan Holmegard (who doubles as the drummer in Dungen too) and Fredrik Swahn. The intimacy permeating through the collection intensifies itself steadily in the music they produce; swimming idly through the groups twisted melody, yet luminously anchored by Reine’s astral guitar. Elsewhere they forgo interstellar for a more bucolic revelry, built upon acoustic laments and a male and female vocal ripple that could only have spread itself outwards from Sweden’s forlorn beauty. With special guests including some of Sweden’s finest musicians; Gustav Ejstes (Dungen)  and Moussa Fadera (Life on Earth!) amongst others, nothing on ‘Wait for a light to come’ is introverted or overworked – everything is balanced, kept together by natural melodies, soulful vocals and just how perfect should be. ‘The Amazing’ is a feeling, an organic consequence of something that effortlessly came together, the start of a quite extraordinary tale.

The Amazing:
The Amazing (XMLP-SUB34 Subliminal Sounds) NEW 180:-
Vinyl LP limited 1,000 copies.
The Amazing fell far from the tree. Empowered but not defined by the successes of previous output; the various members of Dungen. The Amazing, instead, is a natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallizing into a folk-rock- psych-pop- collective slowly pushing, bending then playing with any preconceived notions of pop. Already receiving unanimous critical acclaim in Sweden, their debut album is an all-encompassing sonic soundscape of groovy electric folk rock, psychedelic pop and airy acoustic ballads. The core musicians in The Amazing are - Christoffer Gunrup (Swedish singer/songwriter extraordinaire ex Granada), Reine Fiske (lead guitar wizard in Dungen), Johan Holmegard (drummer in Dungen and Life on Earth!), Fredrik Swahn (prominent Swedish multi-musician in Dreamboy, Anna Jarvinen) - with the intimacy permeating through the collection intensifying itself steadily in the music they produce. ‘The Amazing’ is a feeling, an organic consequence of something that effortlessly came together, the start of a quite extraordinary tale.

THE AMAZING: Code II/To Skå and Back (Mexican Smmer US 09) M/M 150:-
Brand new and beautiful US only deluxe 10” release from the most amazing the Amazing! B-side is only available on vinyl on this release…. And it’s a killer of course with a searing loud fuzz guitar courtesy of Mr. Reine Fiske on top. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies only that will dry up quickly.

APOLLO: (Hong Kong 6?) Ex/Ex 1200:-
Still in shrink! Rare and mindblowing and unique Chinese instro psych album by the backing band for the Stylers etc. That gives you a hint but this is just better. Here they get to realize their sounds all of their own. Fuzz guitars and spacy sounds galore (which somehow strangely reminds me and pre-dates Bo Hansson 1st album “Saga nom Ringen”) on this Asian late 60s acid feast.

ARCHESIA: Reachin
(Little Indians/Shadoks G re) M-/M- 499:-
Exact reissue of mega rarity from 1974. Mind-boggling lounge rock psych monster altered reality from California by middle-aged acid gobbling crooner who decided to cut a psychedelic rock album. The result; an utter heartfelt lysergic monstrosity with some ferocious fuzz guitars and bent vocals.  It is for sure unlike everything else, but also a very cool psychedelic artefact and a big fave for some.  This reissue was released in 1997 on the highly acclaimed and collectable  Little Indians label from Germany (later to become Shadoks) and sold out pretty instantly an is not almost impossible to score, This is a hand-numbered edition of 400 copies pressed on heavy vinyl and housed in a beautiful and massively thick cover. Been out of print for ages.

ERIC ASCHAN: Två (Private SW 77) rw sobc Ex/Ex 500:-
Rare Swedish loner folk from a troubled mind.

catalano does it all alone

BABY GRANDMOTHERS 2xLP (Subliminal Sounds SUBLP20) NEW 200:-
Limited 2 x LP vinyl edition of 500 copies. Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power-trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground-scene in 1967. Although hailing from Stockholm, Sweden they only released a single in Finland, which has since become one of the most sought after pieces of vinyl from the era. Baby Grandmothers were formed out of the legendary R&B / beat band T-Boones in the summer of 1967. T-Boones are probably best known for their “At the club/King of the Orient” single which is one of the best, and most collectable, out of the Swedish garage beat-era. Guitar-wiz Kenny Håkansson joined the band in 1965and with the group down to a trio they drifted into the psychedelic sounds of the time and in August 1967 released the single “I Want You”, which definitely was the first hard-rock recording ever made in Sweden. The band was then re-christened Baby Grandmothers by the co-founder of the newly opened psychedelic club Filips, for which he needed a house-band. Filips was the legendary breeding ground for bands such as Hansson & Karlsson, Pärson Sound, as well as orgiastic all night jams with foreign luminaries such as Jimi Hendrix and the Mothers of Invention. Baby Grandmothers also supported Jimi Henrix on his Swedish tour in 1968 and then turned into Mecki Mark Men, who became the first Swedish rock band to tour the US. Founding member Kenny Håkansson went on to form the highly influential Kebnekajse, who created the Swedish electric folk psych sound. This unique collection brings live-recordings made at Filips, their impossibly rare single and a rare live recording made in Finland. Painstakingly collected and researched by Dungen’s guitarist Reine Fiske.

BEACH BOYS: Wild Honey (Capitol UK 68) Ex/Ex 300:-
Rare UK rainbow rim original mono pressing with the original Brian Wilson mix.

BLESSED END: Movin’ On (TNS EU re) M/M- 200:-
Long out of print exact reissue. Cool and unique biker/Doors inspired private rarity . A put off too some as the juxtaposition of a vocalist and lyrics that are extremely melodramatic and overblown backed by a pretty crude garage band is pretty mind bending. Always dug it as a roadhouse psych lounge trip.

THE BLUE'S MEN - Prohibido Prohibir (Mystic Re) NEW 130:-
So you thought you heard it all? Well, I bet you haven't heard this one! The Blue's Men were from Argentina and their sole LP release is the rarest 60s beat/garage /weirdo release from over there. The Blue's Men's sound is great garage rock with deranged bursts of fuzztone guitar and bizarre lyrics (in English) with song titles like "The Day the World Fried My Brain" and "Reflections of a Sun Freakout"! This might lead you to think it's psych smaltz but no, no, no it's garage rock and deranged stuff from hell, with a lead singer sounding like Elvis o.d'ing on cough syrup! A one of a kind monster record you need real bad! 10" Ltd 500 copies.

BOHEMIAN VENDETTA (Mainstream US re) NEW 180:-
Exact repro of highly in demand US 60s garage psych. 180 Gram vinyl.

BOSTON TEA PARTY (Flick-Disc US 6?)srw woc Vg++/M- 300:-

BRAZILIA 70 AND THE CHICO LOPEZ ALL-STARS: South of the Border (Deacon UK 70) Ex/M- 220:-
Big fave with a collection of very smooth, very funky, brass-filled, upbeat lounge pop and some intense tracks like “Trouble Spot”, an obvious highlight with killer fuzz guitar and serious grooves, but there’s really not a bad track on here! Appears to be a Syd Dale library album and release on the UK budget label Deacon in 1970.

LOS BRAZOES (Fermata A 1970) Ex/Ex 1200:-
Rare original 1970 Argentinean pressing of this killer Brazilian psych LP.  Os Brazoes were the backing band onGal Costa's best and most psychedelic effort Tuareg and were fronted by the unsung hero of Brazilian music Miguel de Deus.

J.D. BRENNAN and GOLD FEVER: Stratosphere (Scyne US 89) M-/M- 700:-
J.D. BRENNAN + GOLD FEVER: Guitar Slinger
(Scyne US 90) M-/M- 700:-
The two rarest and way most desirable by this amazing 50 year old "real people" rocker who manage to sneak in a powerful psychedelic edge to his echoed rockabilly twist, garagey hot guitars, loner vocals, barband sleaze, that only adds to the overall haunted lysergic feel. Mr. Brennan plays a mean guitar and sings and is backed by a full band called Goldfever. This is real emotional, the guy really puts himself on the line and sings and plays as if every note would be his last. The LPs were done in pressings of 200 copies only. Some copies were around 15 years ago but are now long gon.

TIM BUCKLEY: Blue Afternoon (Straight US re) M/M 200:-
Exact re of his absolute best album for psycheads. Deep turned on sounds here folks. Don’t miss this masterpiece.

Great1974 Swedish Hard Psych with ex Life guitar player.

CANE AND ABLE (Epic Fr 72) Ex+/Ex+ 1400:-
Killer funk psych LP. Very rare original French pressing from 1972. Has minimal mark on label (sticker) no damage.

CANE AND ABLE: Relating A Message To You (re) M-/M- 200:-
Out of print exact re of the second album by this great and trippy French/American funk collective from 1972. The album's tighter than the group's first one – with lots of wah-wah guitar jamming, spaced out production, and some excellent soul vocals that must have been some of the best recorded in Paris in the 70s. The whole thing sparkles like a rare American funk album on an indie label from the same time – and it's filled with loads of great tracks like "Stoned Groove" and "Mass of Confusion".  Nice long funky psych tracks.

FRANCES CANNON: Th Singing Psychic (US) bc Ex/M- 700:-
Cannon, a Dallas, TX. based clairvoyant, becomes "psychic" after being hit by a lumber truck in 1979. She makes this strange deep real people psychedelic album in 1987. The combination of her southern, little-girl, speak-sing drawl and guitar/keyboard-propelled psych-ish arrangements made tracks like 'Stars', 'Discoveries' and Spaceships Have Landed (Rock)'' simply irresistible. Sure, occasionally the plotlines became a little difficult to follow; witness 'Lincoln's Ghost' which somehow managed to weave together Presidential elections, Libya's Muammar Ghadaffi, and extraterrestrials. Mind you, her voice wil probably irritate pets and anyone in to the mainstream, but anyone with an ounce of musical adventure in their souls should get a kick out of this. Add in the off-the-wall lyrical content, exemplified by tracks like 'Come Step thru Space' and 'Spirals of Time', UFOs and extraterrestrials remained popular topics. Besides, it was almost impossible to not be won over by Cannon's unique and largely upbeat outlook on life. One of a kind!

JIMMY CATALANO: Jimmy Does It All Alone (Private US) rw Vg+++/G- to EX
New Jersey one-man-band lounge act vanity pressing. “This guy used to do an organ single at "The Pub" in the Allwood section of Clifton, NJ. The trumpet was the last thing he added. He used a Hammond as his main axe with a then-new Mini Moog on top, a grand piano on his right, and either an Allen Trio or some sort of Conn on his left. The last I'd heard of him he was at the 7 Sisters in Perth Amboy.” All of side A is pretty much trashed by a severe scratch except the last track which miracously survived unharmed…and that is the track worth getting the album for (and the cool sleeve of course); a great version of “Evil Ways”.

CENTER LINE "Sayin' It... Together" (Vanco US) M-/M- 250:-
Cool private press lounge album.  Here's a review of it from the new Acid Archives book: "Fun northwest lounge record highlighted by mixed vocals and a nice, homemade sounding production. Showing a good range, the minimalist band (led by organ) go from a dynamic "Goin out of my head/Night and day" medley and dramatic "Impossible Dream" to a perky vocal version of "Misty". The peak songs are a dreamy "Love is Gone" with reverbed female backing vocals (would fit on one of those proverbial twilight zone lounge collections) and an epic "Peace Medley" comprised mainly of Beatles songs, with a 'heavy' rap at the end. Circa '70 release, on the same custom label as The Forum, Dale and Vicki and Easy Chair. Good for collectors of the genre."

CEREBRUM 10” (WW SP re) M-/M- 180:-
This beautiful 10" vinyl collects all the 4 tracks originally released on the two 1970 Dimension singles by Madrid's uber psychedelic hard rock legends. Deluxe packaging with astonishing gold embossed cover, a poster and extensive liner notes.

CHANGING TIMES: Introducing (Ramlo US) M-/M-245:-
Rare early 70s private press pop lounge jazz LP; with a nice open drum solo break. Cool songs as "Evil ways-Oye como va, etc.

CHARLIE, BILL & STEVE: Going to the Dogs (Fidelco US 77) M-/M- 450:-
Judged solely by the cover (still in shrink btw), this one looks like pure boner material. A father and his two sons record a bunch of original instrumentals in their living room and sell the record with all proceeds going to the German Shepherd guide dog foundation started by the father (hence the title). Sounds like it should be horrible but there's actually some really good compositions and talent on display here. Dad's got some cool effects on guitar and there's lots of interesting dialog between songs (including mom coming in at one point to ask if she should start the dishwasher later so they can record without the added noise). The haunting original "Just Life" and the deep version of "Summertime" with farm animals making a wild guest experience(?!) for example and my stand out faves Jimmie the Greek and Prattling Pond Blues that, at least in my twisted mind, get’s deeply psychedelic in a noodling echoey guitar way. About as fun and original an LP as you'll ever come across. This copy from legendary musician/dealer/collector and most awesome friend Michael Piper. Bless his soul! Rare privatye press.

CHILDREN: Death Tribe (Kemado US 08) NEW 80:-
Children is a trio that features Adam Bennati from Early Man on drums. They imagine they sound like ZZ Top, but they don't. It's more of a speed metal/prog kinda vibe, but sorta loose. This single features the 10 minute plus jam 'Death Tribe' on Side A and a wicked etching on Side B

CHIMNEY SWEEPS: Devil Girl (Norton US) M-/M- 150:-
For the first time on wax, here's a dozen crude, unissued 1966-67 garage recordings by Australia's answer to the Alarm Clocks, the truly remarkable Chimney Sweeps. These guys never boasted a release during their short "career" (they played maybe 15 gigs tops) and were totally unknown even amongst top Australian collectors until recently. The twelve sides include wild originals like Lies, Lies and the demented Cold Fish ("she ain't no gold fish!") plus three cool covers - their dragged-through-a-ditch take on the Rolling Stones' Grown Up Wrong must be heard to be believed! The big crunch is capped by a '66 stab at the title song by the Sweeps' earlier incarnation, the Cobwebs. Features a full band bio, whacked out group photo (the only one!) and a buzzin' dozen garage killers!

CHROMIUM: Star to Star (Infinity US 79) Ex/M- 220:-
Starting out a little odd here (well actually there’s a lot weirder listing further down…) Buggles related higher-key disco one-off with tracks like “Haunted Disco” setting the eerie mood. Really special one in the disco department….even advocated by the legendary NYC psych Mafioso Paul M.

CINCINNATI JOE & MAD LYDIA (River Witch US 71) srw Ex/Ex 1300:-
Legendary, special and unique higherkey "real people" LP  that goes all over the map from psych to funk femme folkpsych all with their own perspective and filtered through a half empty Holiday Inn lounge vibe. Quit unexplainable but very enjoyable.

COCHISE (UA UK 70) M-/M- 430:-

COMMON PEOPLE: Of the people/by the people/for the people (Capitol US re) M-/M- 180:-
Exact repro on vinyl of superbly moody album first released by Capitol in 1969. Produced by "LORD" TIM HUDSON (The Seeds, The Lollipop Shoppe) and arranged by DAVID AXELROD, it's a expertly blend of garage rock and orchestrated psychedelia, featuring a three-song opening salvo truly unlike anything else in pop/psych history.

CROSBY STILLS NASH

DADAWAH: PEACE AND LOVE (Dug Out re) NEW 240:-
Dark, hypnotic, tripping nyabinghi from 1974. Led by Ras Michael over four extended excursions, the music is organic, sublime and expansive, drum and bass heavy (with no rhythm guitar, rather Willie Lindo brilliantly improvising a kind of dazed blues). Lloyd Charmers and Federal engineer George Raymond stayed up all night after the session, to mix the recording, opening out the enraptured mood into echoing space, adding sparse, startling effects to the keyboards. At no cost to its deep spirituality, this is the closest reggae comes to psychedelia. Previously squandered in an incongruous two for one reissue, now lovingly returned to its original, singular glory, restored at Abbey Road, with superfly vinyl in old school, hand assembled sleeves.

EUGENE DE LUCA: Discover Each Other (Love US)rw stofc woc wol Vg+/M- OFFERS
His third, and this one actually came with a sleeve.,and what a wonder to behold. Awesome futuristic surreal artwork on front and lots of info and pictures of the singers and Mr De Luca himself on the back cover. These will certainly freak you out!! DEEP FEELING: Pretty Colours (S UK re) NEW €11.30
The first-ever vinyl release of the only tracks recorded by this legendary band. Formed from the ashes of beat band the Hellions in 1966, the short-lived Deep Feeling were one of the most adventurous acts of their time. Featuring Jim Capaldi (Traffic), Poli Palmer (Family), Luther Grosvenor (Mott The Hoople), Gordon Jackson (later to make a classic solo LP) and Dave Meredith, they wowed London audiences with their audacious brand of exotic proto-psychedelia, even backing Jimi Hendrix at his first UK gig. Tragically, however, Capaldi departed to form Traffic during the sessions for their debut (produced by former Yardbirds and Rolling Stones manager Giorgio Gomelsky), and the tapes were shelved. until now. The remarkable tracks make their first-ever LP appearance here, pressed on 180g virgin vinyl, together with demos made by Palmer and Jackson in 1967 and a song featuring the duo backed by the Blossom Toes, and come housed in a gatefold sleeve incorporating detailed notes and rare photographs.

DUNGEN: Ta Det Lugnt Box-Set (Subliminal Sounds) NEW 499:-
We can now finally present the complete and legendary Ta det Lugnt album as a limited deluxe box-set with 3 x 12” discs + a full size poster. The album, as well as the bonus material,  is presented here for the first time with the correct vinyl mastering. Limited edition 1,000 copies only. The most astounding 2004 breakthrough album from Sweden’s Dungen; a modern classic psychedelic album.  The title translates into English as ‘Take it Easy’ which kind of perfectly sums up Dungen’s sound. It’s immediate and you want to get involved, but there’s also such a laid-back, hippy vibe to the whole thing. Ta Det Lugnt is a beautiful musical trip out into the Swedish forests and back again.  “Despite the constant influx of catchphrase-coordinated marketing campaigns that would lead you to believe that life-affirming records are released daily, it's forever rare to stumble upon one as consistently mind-blowing and aesthetically far-reaching as Dungen's Ta Det Lugnt.” - Pitchfork 9.3

DUNGEN: Skit I allt
(Subliminal Sounds SUB-076-LP 2010) NEW sold out
Pre-order now and we will ship it on the release day end of August, 2010. The vinyl release  is a imited edition 1200 copies coloured deluxe vinyl LP. Sweden's Dungen sweetly return with a collection of gorgeous, dreamlike melodies, psychedelic stonkers and graceful, jazz-filled polyrhythms. called
Skit I Allt.  Says main man/ producer/ arranger/ singer Gustav Ejstes: “For me, it means, Don’t give a shit, forget about it, just go ahead and do it. A friend said: “Skit I Allt; Fuck it, do as you want, time is passing and it’s changing, forget fears and hang-ups, we are small and everything is pretty insignificant on the whole. How will it be? What shall we do?  We often worry so much unnecessarily. Skit i allt, it’s happening now”. In what feels like a very short decade, Sweden’s Dungen has mutated at a furious pace. Main man/ producer/ arranger/ singer/ golden child Gustav Ejstes’s lone constant has been change. At ease with effervescent pop, third-eye popping psychedelia, heavy rock, spider-web folk and breezy jazz, Dungen’s dynamism astounds throughout Skit I Allt . Rather than remain only Ejstes’ studio vision, Dungen is a muscular full band now. Guitarist Reine Fiske, bassist Mattias Gustavsson, and drummer Johan Holmegard are fully integrated into Ejstes’ vision of Dungen: “Whether you perceive Dungen as a band or as me and my songs and my productions, the band is something totally free."  I feel [the presence of the band] more than ever, because even if I am a total control freak they all contribute something unique make the songs come alive.” Dungen debuted in 2001 with an eponymous album of long psilocybic tracks and aural tomfoolery. The next year’s Stadsvandringar found Ejstes coming to grips with the language of rock before the zeitgeist-grabbing third album, Ta Det Lugt ignited the blogosphere so that it glowed like the aurora borealis. Not content to revel in such accolades, Tio Bitar flashed the band’s pop smarts as well as their incandescent freakouts while 4 put the band’s cohesiveness on display, at once gorgeous and biting. This latest album is the one that takes in everything they’ve done, and learned, and brings them to a whole.

DUNGEN: 4 (Subliminal Sounds SW 08 XMLP-SUB30) SOLD OUT
LP clear vinyl limited edition 1,500 copies. Dungen's fourth studio album extends the acclaimed Swedish outfit's sound past psychedelia into something far more rare. Moving beyond mere stylistic concerns, 4 finds Gustav Ejstes' focus on the extremes of Dungen's sound separating into two entities. Blazing, raw guitar workouts have their own time and place, but now, so do stirringly orchestrated, jazz-cooled compositions with cinematic undertones. Bandleader Gustav Ejstes has made many allusions to his creative process as it likens to that of a hip-hop producer. On 4, that process is more evident than ever, both in the feel of each piece, and in the sense of intuition and control within the members of the group. New drummer Johan Holmegard joins guitarist Reine Fiske and bassist Mattias Gustavsson, while Ejstes steps away from guitar for the entire album, focusing on the piano as his lead instrument. Together, they have honed a classic and seamless sound, constructed with lavish studio flourishes and moving, narrative arrangements, and yet able to toughen up to tear veins of fierce blues-psych instrumentals up from the surface. The ten tracks on 4 comprise Dungen's most concentrated effort to date, beats surging forth and atmosphere changing as their sound continues to evolve. Every song here runs under five minutes, pushing the group to introduce confident melodies and arresting ambiance in tighter frameworks. Gauging from the results, this challenge has done them well. Included in this set are live favorite "Mina Damer och Fasaner," excerpts from a wild psychedelic jam session entitled "Samtidigt", and a storming, Northern Soul-influenced instrumental entitled "Fredag". These stand tall with some of the most fully-realized moments of Dungen's career; percolating prog-pop groover "Det Tar Tid" and eloquent opener "Satt At Se. With a penchant for lush pop portraits, and laced with orange sunshine guitar flash, 4 turns a page in Dungen's sound and story.

ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN: What Me Worry? (A I re) M-/M- 250:-
Fantastic electric folk prog psych LP from Italy 1976. These guys sing in English and sound like a cross between Tractor and Zakarrias! Acoustic guitar-led songs with heavy fuzz electric leads all over the place. Really very special, awesome album. Exact reissue long out of print. Don’t miss.

ELECTRIC PRUNES (Reprise US re) M-/M- 150:-
Exact re of classic 60s psych.

ENTHEOGENS: The Gnostic Mass LP (Xotic Mind/Subliminal Sounds 95 SW) Ex/M- 850:-
1 of 5 only white label test pressings. Has the insert. "Two long oriental esoteric jams with sitar, flute and percussion. This is a really psychedelic party where almost all of Xotic Minds members contribute. The improvisations that were recorded at Adam Axelzons home and at the Babalon Bar in Stockholm reaches orgiastic crescendos, especially the “Io Pan”, a primordial invocation to Pan, with polyrhythmical structures that grows and grows. Reminds one of such masterpieces as “Seven Ate Sweet” or “Taxim” by the mythical Kaleidoscope (USA). The Entheogens LP is a cleansing dip in a oriental acid distortion. A kind of record you seldom see nowadays." – Rockerilla, Italy. Personal fave of LP on the label; as appealing as any US private press monster. All of the label's talent gathered for extended tribal acid oriental jams, partly recorded live. Strange cult inspiration adds an eerie vibe. Never reprinted and hard to find. – Patrick ”The Lama”/The Lama Reviews

TOMAS ERNVIK: Små Låtar (Cymbal SW 71) Ex/M- 200:-

FAPARDOKLY
(G re) NEW 220:-
Fapardokly is regarded as one of the most important release in Merrell Fankhausers long career, and an absolute collectors item. The band recorded about 30 tracks in a small studio in Palmdale, California, from 1965 to 1967, when the owner of the studio decided to release an album with some of these tracks. With such different recording dates, you’ll find different sounds all blending together nicely; 60s pop, jangly folk-rock, psychedelia. a truly fantastic album that finally gets a legit vinyl reissue and with the original artwork. Comes with an insert featuring photo from Merrells personal archive, and liner notes by him as well.

FAR EAST FAMILY BAND: PARALLEL WORLD (P UK re) NEW 250:-
Unlike other albums where the Far East Family Band focused on Pink Floyd-esque psych ballads, on 'Parellel World' the influence of producer Klaus Schultze is more pronounced, merging prog rock with electronic music to create something rather weired and wonderful. Although Schultze oversaw the production of the album rather than playing on it (which he definitely didnt!), the synth star turn is Masanori Takasaki who was later to find new age fame and fortune under the name of Kitaro. This is space rock at its finest and the bands extended compositions attracted favourable comparisons with both Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd, and even at times the vocal style of the Moody Blues. Unfortunately this was the bands last album but they went out on a high, achieving the rare feat of appealing to devotees of both Kraut Rock and electronic psychedelia alike.

MICHAEL FARNETI: Good Morning Kisses (Companion US re) NEW 200:-
Back in! South Florida and recorded in 1976, Michael Farneti's Good Morning Kisses is a brilliant vanity press head-scratcher. Indeed, it seems Farneti is channelling Van Dyke Parks and Scott Walker amongst others  in his wide-eyed enthusiastic and sometimes melancholic songs. Without a hint of irony, Farneti exudes a wonderfully naive charm with strange (and perhaps unintentionally humorous) lyrics. It has falsetto harmonies, Theremin flourishes, and washed out orchestral yacht rock arrangements, deep psych, exotica and disco. Golden moments for any fan of unique musical visionaries await!

FATHER'S CHILDREN  WHO'S GONNA SAVE THE WORLD + 7” (Numero US RE) NEW    180:-
Hailing from the Adams-Morgan neighborhood in Washington DC, in '73 Nick Smith, Billy Sumler, & Ted "Skeet" Carpenter created a lost document of gritty soul, concerned with its own time and place. Previously unreleased this freshman offering is an amalgam of sunny vocal group harmonies, fuzz-guitar solos, shimmering keys, bubbling percussion, spiritual prophecy, & dub experiments. Vinyl version with bonus 7" ft. exclusive B-side

HUGO FILHO: PARAIBO (S re) NEW 565:-
LP 450 numbered / glossy heavy sleeve / 180 gram pressing / insert "Everything began in 1977 when the poet, Antônio de Padua Cavalho invited me to create melody for his poetries. At the time I was lead guitarist of the band " The Gentlemen "(a garage northwest that included Ze Ramalho (who released a wonderfull DLP together with Lula Cortez) in one of his line-ups and recorded a rare Lp and one 45).. For this unique project we invited Ze Ramalho the musician and composer Elsio Alexandrino (Golinha), to control the 4 channels tape recorders the musician Enilton Araujo, the 12 strings viola arrangements where done by Irapuan (Pupu), drummer Edmilson (Crauna), percussion by special guest Ze Crisologo and Hugo Filho nylon guitar, bass, keyboards and art direction". This LP is really special, Brazil charm and poetic words. Even in Brazil an incredible rare album, only 500 pressed given to friends and sold in shops, the first private pressing in this country. If Sacros, Lula Cortez, Mutantes and El Congreso is something you like, you will love this one. Lots of folk elements which devolves in twisted endings. Something you want to play to your new girl on a crazy summer night. And for your guys in NY with Brazilian roots (Arto Lindsay) this is something you should play on your next party.

FOOD: Forever Is A Dream (Breeder AU re) M-/Ex 210:-
Long out of print xxact repro of this highly rated US, Chicago 1969 album. “Mysterious, wondrous masterpiece that most collectors dismiss as the little brother to the other Capitol monsters (Gandalf and Common People) when it’s actually the best of the three. Intensely emotional and dramatic; these guys had a vision and multiple listens begin to reveal its depth. String-laden ballads hold hands with fleeting blasts of power chords. Bits and pieces that seem to have no purpose blend together to create a surprisingly coherent whole. It’s hard to know if they even intended this to be a “concept album,” but it’s definitely a case of the whole being more then the sum of the pieces, good as the pieces are”. [AM] – Acid Archives

FORTUNE TELLER: INNER CITY SCREAM (A GR re) NEW 399:-
Fuzzy underground album recorded back in 1978, and released as a private pressing of 500 copies. The band formed in Baltimore, Maryland by Danny Amburn, John Holt, Joe Klimas, Mark Beyder and Bob Wells. Their album, heavy at places, is full of fuzz-guitarwork with 60's garage & british invasion influences and low-budget production (think of Boa or Shadrack albums) while a couple of songs have a wild and underground approach to rural rock. This album exists in a time warp. Its from the midst of the first punk era, but sounds genuinely 60s garage the way no neo-garage band ever did. The fuzz guitars are everpresent, and the songs are pure garage pop and garage rock, rocking hard without ever sounding remotely "hard rock." The sound is as cheap as can be, which only accentuates the coolness of the fuzz. Despite some awkward singing, there are a lot of catchy melodies here, and I can imagine that Baltimorians who discovered "Nuggets" in the late 70s went nuts over this band. A few songs flirt with rural rock, but basically its teen-sounding angst, just as cool as their punk peers. [AM] Taken from the Acid Archives. First ever official reissue, fully licenced by Danny Amburn and the band. Exact reproduction for the cover and labels. It includes extra 4-pages laminated insert with bio, lyrics and photos. PVC protective outersleeve. 180 g vinyl. 500 copies vinyl edition.

FREEDOM OF RHAPSODIA: Vol 2 (Purnama, Indonesia) EX/VG++ 1200:-
Super rare original ofone of my absolute favourite early 70s Indonesian psych/hard rock bands: On this their 2nd, and by far best album, they offer up some killer heavy psych with English vocals coupled with slower rock ballads sung in Indonesian. They were known for their exuberant live shows and their increasingly provocative performances were heavily policed. The reason they sung in English was because most (politicians and police at least they hoped) didn’t understand it and so they could avoid being banned. Plays really well.

FREEDOM SINGERS: Antiimperialistiska Sanger (Befria Sodern SW 70) rw  Vg++/Vg 100:-
Weird revolutionary political Swedisg progg folk but the last two traxks are extended moronic garage fuzz guitar killers. Unfortunately this copy has a crack in the middle over the label but luckily this does not effect the palying.

FRIAR TUCK & HIS PSYCHEDELIC GUITAR (Fallout UK re) NEW  180:-
An oft-overlooked piece of the LA pop-psych jigsaw, this 1967 oddity combines typically complex vocal arrangements by the legendary Curt Boettcher with virtuoso guitar interludes from LA session legend Mike Deasy. Featuring backing from the team responsible for the landmark Millennium and Sagittarius LPs, its a truly deranged mixture of cover versions and originals that makes its long-awaited reappearance on LP here. Pressed on 180g virgin vinyl, its a simply essential purchase for all fans of sunshine pop and psychedelia

FROM BRITAIN WITH BEAT (Modern Sounds US) soc ss tobc Vg/G+ 200:-
Here‚s the absolute worst 60s British invasion, Beatles rip-off LP from USA. The sleeve is worth framing as it is so ridiculous. 4 guys in longhair wigs, guitars and drums goofing about in front of a brick wall. It is so phony you wont believe it. Rare.

JOHN GARY: Holding Your Mind (RCA US 68) rw ch Vg+++/Vg++ 250:-
Rare and unknown album by 3 octave plus vocal range crooner who here does his psychedelic trip album here. Great stuff in the lounge psych department and still very obscure.

GOOD CHEER: Time For (ORS US 72) M-/M- 2000:-
Rarer than you think original private press Lp from Indiana archetypal rural bar-band.  “Warm, amateurish vocals with frequent use of harmonies A tight rhythm section and most importantly a terrific use of a Hammond organ that floods every song with a melancholic rust belt backdrop” says Acid Archives. Great Hammond organ and guitar on all psych garage tunes; 5 originals and 4  covers. This band is just so cool! And the album is deep opening up even more with extended plays.

GRATEFUL DEAD: Anthem of the Sun (WB Australia) srw stobc Vg++/Ex 450:-
Do I need to say anything about this, one of the few ultimate swirling higherkey psychedelic masterpieces of the 1960s? Really one of the best ever. Rare original Australian 60s 1st pressing with gold Barner label and featuring the original mix.

LOS GRILLOS: Introducing (All-Art US) ss srw Vg++/Ex 650:-
Unknown early 70s Mexico/US special psych LP. Really good and solid find reminding me a little of the 2nd Laghonia LP. The record starts out a little uninspired but kicks in to gear on the 4th track which is an awesome instrumental and from there on everything is groovy. 60s trapping, fuzz guitars, swirling organs, a real find for anyone in to Latin psych rock.

RICK GROSSMAN (Thunderbolt US 78) Ex/M- 400:-
This 1978 private pressing, and legendary boner LP, is totally in a world of it's own. Part of the appeal is his strange singing style and lyrics, almost like he has some subtle speech impediment, with weird phrasing, I can't think of any other LP to file this next to. Music is garagy/folkrocky with a bit of a Caribbean flow at times, weavy westcoasty guitar leads, odd rhythms, just like the vocals, I can't think of another LP like this musically. Has cosmic moves, too, with songs like "Mellow Heaven Clout" (about a girl with lyrics like "I used to be a Kellog's man, go from table tasting brand and brand..") and a great wiggy groove. "The Key" (lyrics..."For you finally see the plane you're on, perceptions crystallize, and you see each person on their plane, moving through their time..."). "The Magic We All Hide", "Running Wild" the whole LP is consistently in it's own world and he has the strangest way of communicating. Album is titled "Hot Romance" on Thunderbolt Productions # 8094N2 in odd cover with pic of him lying on the grass. Not overtly crazy or wacko, more subtle twilight-zone style of just being off enough to be even stranger than an intentionally weird LP, outsider style where he probably wasn't trying to be freaky, but naturally comes across that way! First spare copy I've had in long time.

PETER GRUDZIEN: The Unicorn + The Garden of Love 2 x LP (SUBLP23)220:-
First time exact vinyl reissue of this rare, legendary and highly praised urban hillbilly one-man-band “outsider artist” LP from 1974. The “first psychedelic country concept” album features bluegrass mountain music Americana from the twilight zone mixed with tape effects, musique concrete, fuzz guitar, surreal lyrics imagery and themes from religion, death, sex and other timely concerns. Also included is a bonus LP record, “the Garden of Love”, with some truly amazing and haunting unreleased material spanning the years 1950s-70s. The Garden of Love LP includes, amongst others, a song about wandering around in the desert eating peyote. All the music has been carefully transferred from the master tapes and is a facsimile of the original album (previous CD only reissues contained altered mixings). Read more about Peter Grudzien in the Incredibly Strange Music- and Songs in the Key of Z books. This release features a gatefold sleeve with the original “The Unicorn” artwork + loads of photos and liner notes. Gatefold LP sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies only.

BRUCE HAACK: Farad 2xLP (ST US re) NEW 220:-
Up until now, the legacy of BRUCE HAACK (1931-1988) has only existed in the quirks, glitches, and audio signals of modern techno-luminaries such as Kraftwerk and Daft Punk, but unlike the aforementioned, Haack has been left completely unacknowledged. Yet with Stones Throw's release of Farad (The Electric Voice), the electronic music pioneer will be lifted out of the sooty fields of obscurity and rightfully placed into the spotlight of the Electronic music continuum. Farad (The Electric Voice) specifically focuses on tracks using the "Farad", the name Bruce gave to his vocoder, one of the first musical vocoders at the time, which he invented. It includes out of print and unreleased tracks accessed via negotiations with Haack's estate.

BRUCE HAACK: Hush Little Robot (QDK G re) M-/M- 220:-
Early recordings from 1968 – 1974. This is some of the most amazing electronic music we ever heard. An electronic musical-poetic treat for children and high school-people revealing more wonders of our earth-ship. Most of Bruce Haack's music was programmed on a polyphonic music computer built by him from surplus parts furnished by Ver-Tech Radio Philadelphia. The machine was made in 18 month without diagrams or plans (Bruce Haack has never studied electronics) and will produce up to twelve simultaneous voices in changing sequence via a memory holding over four-thousand bits of information. It will also compose at random.

HARAMBEE (Odeon SW 71) rw stoc Vg+++/M-1200:-
Mega rare Swedish major label pop psych release here that really goes over the top on several extended fuzz guitar laced tracks. The band sent a demo recording to try to get a record deal and the label then used the actual demo recording for the release as they were so impressed by the sound. This album though on EMI was so obscure that it was pretty much totally unknown in collector circles until a few years ago (and few collectors have found  copy of it) and the original pressing was tiny. The album didn’t make any commercial success on release except landing one of the band members a job as a prestigious producer. A fantastic and rare Swedish underground classic from 1971. Has the plastic tape seal on the opening of the sleeve as most Swedish albums from the time. These were used in most every record shop to seal the covers much to the annoyance of record collectors later. The tape should be possible to remove though if you are careful.JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE: Are You Experienced (Reprise US) M-/M- 120:-

KENNETH HIGNEY: Attic Demonstration (Kebrutney US 1976) M-/M- 1500:-
The classic original all time fave 1976 private press album that defines the genre.loner/outsider/psychedelic album   “Often  considered the Holy Grail of "real people" records, Kenneth Higney's "Attic Demonstration" was never actually intended to be an official release. It was recorded in New York City by Higney and his accompanist Gordon Gaines (R.I.P.) as a vehicle with which to sell Higney's songs to other artists and was only pressed to vinyl in 1976 when he grew tired of duplicating cassette tapes. Apparently the Jandekian dissonance of the "A. Demo." sound was an unintended by-product of the one take demo sessions. Be that as it may, "Attic Demonstration" is a strange sonic world all of it's own. It is neither too weird to be unappealing to "regular" music listeners nor is it one of those "discoveries" that leaves you wondering what all the hype was about. Acoustic guitar ballads of nearly atonal desolation mix readily with rock 'n' roll numbers featuring hiccuping drums and alien sounding and fuzzy electric guitar. Higney's vocals are by turns sneering and mournful as he sings about lost love and the desire for fame all filtered through his uniquely bent worldview. Although a few ads were placed for the record in The Village Voice and The Aquarian, the fame that Higney sought eluded him (a semi-positive review in Trouser Press notwithstanding). That is, until the album was discovered and distributed by record dealer Paul Major.”; Original first pressing with the Kebruteny Lyndhurst, New Jersey address on a sticker on the back cover.”

LOS HOLY’S: Sueno Sicodelico (EH SP re) M-/M- 180:-
Out of print beautiful 10” reissue of this amazing Peruvian 60s garage/instro/psych band. They could be considered the first local psychedelia movement of the mid-60s: they were capable of experimenting with compositions and sounds beyond the New Wave beat melodies common at the time, and all of this while remaining a basically instrumental band. Initially influenced by the Ventures, Les Baxter and Duane Eddy, they soon situate themselves under the syncopated funk influence of The Meters, Backyard Heavies or Lee Dorsey, curiously all bands which originate from New Orleans. Later they turn towards a kind of Latin-rooted psychedelia with prevailing guitar and organ counterpoints, all supported atop an elaborate rhythmic base.
Later on one of the band members  founded additional bands, touchstones of other facets of Peruvian rock: Telegraph Avenue and Tarkus.

HORRIFIC CHILD/JEAN-PIERRE MASSIERA: L'ETRANGE MONSIEUR WHINSTER (FK UK re) New 220:-
Part rock album, part experimental album, part imaginary horror soundtrack, L'Etrange Monsieur Whinster is a psychedelic pop audio show, flowing naturally from one surprising sequence to the next. Horrific Child was the creation of one Jean-Pierre Massiera, also the composer behind the Les Maledictus Sound project from 1968. Les Maledictus Sound were an inventive, high-brow concoction of lounge-style instrumental mod big band music, with heavy brass, plucky bass and fuzz guitar. Horrific Child is certainly the logical stylistic next step from that record, evidence of the composer's having survived several years beyond the psychedelic era.

BUN HUNGA & HIS COMBO: Relax (Wah Wah SP re) NEW 180:-
Limited repress of this little known gem by Dutch Hammond king Roland Thyssen under his Bun Hunga pseudonym which has already been tipped as one of the best exploited albums of the continent. Bun Hunga & His Diplomatic Music (as it appeared in early 7"s and some issues of the album) recorded this killer exploitation album which, unlike many of it's counterparts, is a solid killer from start to finish (not a single dumb filler in sight!). Think The Underground Set, La Formule Du Baron, Jungle Obsession, Mandingo and other groovers of the era... this is European exploitation as it's best."

INDEX (Voxx US re) Ex+/Ex+ 500:-
Ancient reissue of one of the all-time holy grails of psychedelia. An interesting album with a really druggie sound, full of feedback and fuzzy guitars. The vocals, when present, are not easily heard. The songs all follow a similar pattern with hazy guitar riffs and loud rhythms. The last track is particularly noisy and unstructured. This record is great-bizarre, atmospheric, amateurish (in the best of all possible ways). Hidden in amongst the echoing canyons of sound there’s some really snotty punk attitude wrapped up in trippy velvet fuzz. This record has a wonderful bleak sound, both droning and murky... the atonal sound of 1960's rock that would leave the most lasting impression on what would become future punk, post-punk and indie rock artists. This reissue came out back in 1984 and is a rarity in itself now.

JOHNNY GUITAR (Thaiphonograph Thailand) h2o rw tobc Vg/Vg 1200:-
Tracks from these ultra rare LPs appears on the Thai Beat A Go-Go vol 1 CD. Very little is now known about the Thai rock n roll scene of the 1960s, an era that now seems hopelessly lost in the past. The original records are so scarce that they practically never turn up, even in their native Thailand This was the kings of the string bands in Thailand. Amazing wild rocking instro sounds. These records are totally extinct so you wont stumble on any more copies anytime soon. Both plays great all though visually they’re not perfect…but try preserving a vinyl record and sleeve in Thailand for almost 40 years. Supannahong is a traditional tune reserved for a boat procession on the mighty Chao Praya river. In Johnny's Guitar's hands the song turns into a haunting masterpiece that even pre-dates the coming of the psychedelic era.

JOHNNYS GUITAR / SON OF P.M. (Skrikrung Thailand 6?) srw Vg++/Vg 1000:-

KANSAS CITY JAMMERS - GOT GOOD (IF YOU GET IT
(Void US re) NEW 220:-
Recorded between 1969 and 1971 the Kansas City Jammers were a college trio struggling between grades and drugs, the results, psychedelia. This LP is a mixture of electric acid folk to out and out rock, songs like "Waiting For The Messiah", "Midnight Watch" and more. Void has added a bonus non LP 45 to the package. Original cover, 500 pressed on black vinyl. From the KCJ's master tapes. Originals now go for about $200 and will shoot up in the near future. Here is a good sounding, compelling piece of cool old vinyl. Insert included as well

BHARAT KARKI & PARTY: INTERNATIONAL MUSIC (EM re) NEW 210:-
From beginning to end, this is a flood of weird Indian psychedelic funk, showering us with heavy percussion grooves in a borrowed 'international music' style featuring elements of rock, as well as latin and arabic music, melded with chanted Hindu mantra. Electric guitar and bass, bunch of Indian percussion, flutes, scream, organ and (maybe) Moog! An explosion of Indian youth music from the mysterious- 1978 private production. First time ever reissue.

KATHY & TONY: Sings for Lovers (Cove US) M-/M 260:-
Another needle in the haystack lounge mover. Husband and wife team of Tony and Kathy Rich, a guitar and singing lounge duo that entertained vacationers in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. For most of the recording, the tunes are presented in simple but serviceable arrangements. With vocals, electric guitar and some kind of rhythm box holds down the beat, Kathy and Tony trade off lead vocals, and Tony holds the whole thing together with his guitar accompaniment. Miserlou (with vocals non the less) is the stand out track. It goes way surreal with sneaky eastern fuzz guitar action. In shrink, autographed

Kebnekajse
kEBNEKAJSE

KEBNEKAJSE: Idioten (Subliminal Sounds 2011) LP 180:-
Release date February 25, 2011. The LP is a limited edition 500 copies. Idioten (The Fool) - Kebnekajse unleash a new album in February 2011. Kebnekajse takes folk rock to new heights. Forty years after their debut, the Swedish 70's folk rock pioneers have gathered no moss. Two years after their acclaimed comeback, and proven by countless tours they now present what is perhaps their strongest recordings ever – “Idioten” (The Fool). On the new album Kebnekajse widens views and lets the folk music tone find new forms, free from any tightly held reins. "We wanted to give the folk music new feet. From the vast cannon of ancient Swedish folk songs we wanted to highlight songs that stand out, rare songs that leave room for improvisation and debauchery in the spirit of the psychedelic '70s. With these resolutions the band got into the studio (the same one used for the recording of the latest Dungen album btw) for three sessions of four days each, from May to September. The result was ten new tracks. It’s unlimited music where intricate melodies and distinctive rhythms takes unexpected turns. Electrical. Eclectic. While unified in a dynamic drive. Kebnekajse has deepened the interplay in the last years of touring. In the initial track Barfota (Barefoot) the electric guitar and violin spins melodic sound weaves over pulsating drums, percussion and double basses. Heavy and soft at the same time. Fäbodpslam (Mountain Shack Psalm) breathes beautifully melancholy before the great polska From-Olle (Pious-Olle)whips up a furious pace. Hans & Greta is tight like a music box in the melody interplay while Senpolska (Late Polska)  from Hälsingland becomes a drawn-out distorted drone piece ("like a grunt from the deepest of halls of the mountain king"). The musicians also breaks up with jam trips and let’s loose the love of their musical roots. The title track Idioten (The Fool) ("polska not sly on a spot") madly mixes a Hälsingland polska with hard progressive rock. Stockholm Polka get a snorting country feel and the collective Senegal Beat becomes dreamlike Afro-funk psych with a Alpine feel. The closing Norwegian “walking tune” Sangenuten (The Song Without) is connected with a long tail of psychedelia.  With Idioten (The Fool) Kebnekajse lifts Swedish folk rock to new heights. And new psychedelic overtones. A short biography for new listeners: During the 1970s Kebnekajse was known as Sweden's highest band. Pioneering and leading among the Swedish instrumental psych/progressive groups. They electrified the folk music and shrugged off the knee-tassel. Instead the hippie-hair flew high on numerous music festivals. They made six albums from their inception from 1971 to 1978, after which they split up. Kebnekajse reunited during  the summer of 2001 and in the early spring 2009 they released their critically acclaimed comeback album "Kebnekajse" with pure Swedish folk songs. After this the band has toured widely, and thus in 2011 Sweden’s hardest folk musicians widens the sound with psychedelic folk rock on their new album Idioten (The Fool). Pre-order now to receive it on the release date February 25, 2011.

KEBNEKAJSE (XMLP-SUB26) LP NEW 180:-
The highest band in Sweden flies again – Kebnekajse releases a new album! They have been extremely influential and their sound can be hard in most Swedish psych/prog bands, and of course Dungen whos lead guitarist Reine Fiske has been working with recording and production of this album: There’s a rumble in the mountain, the forest swings and sings, the wind grabs tones that meanders high up amongst the clouds. It is time for the troll-dance again…Kebnekajse releases a new album in February 2009. They may be the highest mountain in Sweden but they are known as the highest band in the land. They were pioneers with their instrumental, electrified Swedish folk (fiddler) music. When they unleash their heavy version of Horgalaten at a festival the ring dancing spins around so that the hippie-hair flutter and the knee-tassle starts smoking. Kebnekajse, with Kenny Hakansson, Goran Lagerberg, Mats Glenngard, Thomas Netzler, Hassan Bah och Pelle Ekman, are back on stage and record. Six men loaded with eight new songs recorded in the woods (in the legendary Silence Studio with Anders Lind and Reine Fiske behind the controls) and mixed in the city; electric folk-rock with psychedelic overtones.

KRISTYL (Private re) M-/M- 350:-
”Highly regarded local Christian 1970s melodic guitar-rock with an open late-1960s west coast vibe, dual guitars and great organic playing/vocals all around. They have a very distinct sound, which makes the tracks seem similar at first, but it opens up after some plays and remains that way. The best tracks such as "Deceptions of the mind" and "Valley of life" are truly monumental. Personal fave, one of the big ones in the style. Great sleeve design”. -Acid Archives. I can only agree 100% plus add that this exact , legit and perfectly executed limited reissue cam out in the 1990s and has been sold out for ages so don’t miss. A really amazing album.

LIFE ON EARTH

LIFE ON EARTH!: The Perfect Spot 10” (ÅÄÖ SW 11) NEW 130:-
The heat trembles in the air. It is afternoon in late July. I lie on my back in the grass. Reflections from the water glisten on the wall next to it. A gentle breeze moves through the trees. My head is softly spinning. Led by Dungen bassist Mattias Gustavsson, Life on Earth! takes us to brighter and warmer places. Sometimes it’s to the Californian sun and sometimes to the deep forests of Swedish Småland. The Perfect Spot tells a love story from its euphoric beginning through all its phases of longing and uncertainty until the bittersweet end. Whether it’s between two persons, or the little human and the big mythical machinery remains untold. The Perfect Spot moves from mild tripped pop to wild dance music. Mattias’ delicate guitar plays a large role, as does Erik Lundin's flute. The element of jazz is evident, thanks not only to Mattias’ well composed songs, but also because of the musicians’ very delicate work, not least the eminent and acclaimed jazz drummer Moussa Fadera. Along the way, the interactions between music and lyrics are unusually tightly intertwined. Critics about Life on Earth!: ”Every bit is seamlessly in place” – Raven Sings the Blues (regarding Blomkraftens Frukt 7”). "A Space Water Loop is very close to a perfect psych folk/rock/pop album..." ‐ Psychotropic Zone. (regarding Space Water Loop) ”Landmark Swedish psych album” – Uncut (regarding ”Look!! There is…).

LIFE ON EARTH!: A Space Water Loop
(XMLP-SUB31 2009) LP
180:-
The follow-up to the acclaimed debut ”Look!! There is Life on Earth!” The first album was something of a journey past summer green hills and skipping lambs; a celebration of the imperishable eternal beauty and a romantic observation of the world around us. Now the telescope is turned inside out. The focus is on the captain of the project, Mattias Gustavsson's own world. Confusion and contradiction are found in the front stalls, visions of ecstasy next to battles with demons and defunct relationships. The drums are given more space, and a Hammond organ has found its way along the layered vocals and languorousstring arrangements. But even though the sound has grown both harder and bigger, the album is a natural follow-up with equal parts sound experimentation, folk and classic psychedelic pop, based on an acoustic guitar. Besides Life on Earth!, Mattias Gustavsson, among other things, plays the bass in Dungen and is currently producing a coming album with Lisa & Piu. Other members of Life on Earth! are Martin Fogelström, Alexis Benson, Erik Lundin and Johan Holmegard (Dungen). On the album yet another ten or so guests help out as well. Just like the last time the cover paintings and collages were made by New York artists and Lights members Sophia Knapp and Wizard Smoke. The album got its title from Knapp's collage “A Space Water Loop”.

LIFE ON EARTH!: Look! There is…
(Subliminal Sounds XMLP-SUB21) NEW 180:-
Limited vinyl LP edition of 500 copies. Life on Earth! is the solo-work of talented multi-instrumentalist Mattias Gustavsson, from the Swedish band Dungen. Together with some fellow travelling kindred musical spirits (musicians from Dungen, The Works, Town & Country and Mia Doi Todd), he has created an amazingly deep and timeless album filled with shimmering vibrant psychedelic folk-rock-pop. The basic idea was to make music that celebrates the incredible and absolutely wonderful phenomenon of life on Earth, hoping to spread some joy to any possible listeners. The project has been going on since 2003. Barefoot on tiptoe, in a bubble of magic, swirling elegantly among the stars. Here's life on earth according to Life On Earth!: "Right in between, both after and before, nobody really knows where we came from or where we are going ... Suddenly one is cut off from one's past, intruded on by the present, without a clue of what to say or what to do about anything. But where ever we may go, it is all one and the same anyway. Why not simply enjoy it, until the day we die? So lay all your worry aside now. Don't hesitate; let your dreams sweep you away. Then you may see everything that's forgotten here. Lean back and feel how light and exquisite you truly are. Wonder at the beauty of nature; listen to how it invites you among beech trees and squirrels. Embrace it, because he and she and it and we are all connected to you and you are just like everything else, constantly changing into wondrous beings yet unseen -- you might watch the life on Earth for inspiration." Got it? In other words, absolutely joyful, wondrous, swirling Swedish psych-folk loveliness. Sparkling acoustic singer-songwriter sing-a-longs, acid-drenched guitar burners, spacey vocals, electronic whines, sitar-drone, psych-flute trill, bongos, echoes, some dreamy backwards-masking, and even some songs in English! More pared down (but no less thrilling) than Dungen, with its hands and feet on the warm rocks beside the river.

LINKWOOD FAMILY: Piece of Mind EP (Firecracker Rec UK) NEW 140:-
Exclusive 10" from the UK  in a run of 1000 copies and comes with really nice artwork on the outer - and inner sleeves. On the A side there's this rework from Leo Sunshipp's 'I'm back for more' titled 'Piece of mind' here, by The Linkwood Family. A sublime disco/soul cut with an irresistible groove; this rework has heavy chops on the vocals before the break, and an overall psychedelic feel. The flip comes with a vocal intro plus Linkwood's 'Hear the sun'; a smoky, minimal midtempo 4/4 track with sparse percussion, flute, subtle sax, and warm sounds. Last track on the flip comes from Fudge Fingas and is called 'Aksman'. A subtle vocal cut with modest keywork and easy bassplaying. Groovy!

lisa o piu

LISA o PIU: Behind the Bend (Subliminal Sounds SUB-071-LP 2010) LP NEW 160:-
Brand new album from this bewitching Swedish folk siren and her band. This is the follow up to last years critically acclaimed debut album “When this was the future”. To get inspiration for the creation of the new album “Behind the Bend” Lisa spent time in a small cottage located deep in the vast woods of Vastmanland, Sweden, where she enjoyed the last breath of the summer. Every evening she and David walked further in to the woods to an old rowing boat that lay on the edge of a forest lake. In the light of the magically ever glowing Swedish summer midnight sun they paddled across the lake and then further along a forest creek with lush green trees that hangs down over the fresh running water and water lilies. This is the kind of set and setting where you travel into another world….and they did. The initial recordings were made under a vaulted blue ceiling with gold stars in the old 15th century timber church of Hjulsjo, Sweden. The new album is filled with delicious and bewitching watery woodland folk hymnals, eloquent yet eerie. The harp has been given more space, the violin plays a greater role, the twelve-stringed guitar plays graceful melodies and all is led by Lisa's gossamer vocals, as delicate as a wavering candle flame. Come along for the ride.
The LP is a limited edition of 500 copies and the CD limited 1200 copies worldwide.

LISA o PIU: When this was the Future (XMLP-SUB33) LP 180:-
Vinyl edition limited 500 copies.Lisa Isaksson grew up in a small town on the outskirts of Stockholm where she spent most of her time in horse stables dreaming of becoming a riding teacher and owning her own stables. When she wasn’t with the horses she was drawing and spending time on her own in the garden and fantasized about the future. As Lisa grew older and discovered music the drawings and horses soon turned into song lyrics and it wasn’t long before Lisa had rescued her mother’s old guitar from a life in the attic. Lisa soon began experimenting with her voice and songs and began exploring recording techniques with a 4-track recorder. Through the years her love of music continued to grow and she started performing with friends and eventually forming the band Piu together with some friends from school. Lisa’s debut record was a single released in Scotland in 2007. The single got a lot of good reviews and Lisa & Piu gave a couple of concert on the British Isles as well as home in Stockholm. They also came to perform with the British folk musician Roger Wootton who led the legendary acid folk band Comus during the early 1970s. The performances went so well that they were released as a live album. As summer came and turned Sweden into a green and pleasant place again the core of Piu; Lisa, David, Joel and Anders went to a small cottage in the beautiful archipelago north of Stockholm. They arranged and rehearsed the music and also had a lot of fun on the cliffs enjoying the endless sunsets of midsummer. So started the making of what was to become the debut album:“When this was the future”. The album is filled with delicious and bewitching woodland folk hymnals, eloquent yet eerie, and led by Lisa’s gossamer vocals, as delicate as a candle flame. The album is produced by Mattias Gustavsson (Life on Earth! / Dungen). - When I heard Lisa o Piu it was if someone opened the portals to the secret world where from the greatest get their divine inspiration; Linda Perhacs, Bridget St. John, Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny, Vashti Bunyan has all been there. And now Lisa Isaksson has apparently been there too. So I hereby warmly recommend you all to seat yourselves in a comfortable position and sink in to the most beautiful music this world can offer. Far away from any genres and  trends.

PRESTON LOVE: Preston Love’s Omaha Bar-B-Q
(Kent US re) NEW €7.40
”This album is one of a surprisingly large number of deeply funky releases that appeared in the late 60s and throughout the 70s by older players--usually associated with either blues, jazz or early rock n' roll. For years, these albums have been treated with disdain by those who collect the artists' work as commercial sellouts and were so obscure that they were practically unknown to funk fans. Omaha native PRESTON LOVE is not a straight R&B player. He came up playing in the big bands of Nat Towles, Lloyd Hunter, Lucky Millinder, and Count Basie. This album was recorded in 1969 with Love's best friend Johnny Otis and Otis' regular band, which by this time included the blistering guitar playing of his 14 year old son Shuggie Otis. This album is proof positive that Love's blues-drenched soul alto is the perfect vehicle for a funk record. "Pot Likker" and "Chili Mac" are sure to keep you dancing with their tight funky grooves. On the lush, psychedelic "Cream Dream" Preston displays the beautiful tone and soulful creativity that have caused fans and fellow musicians to marvel for years, and Shuggie Otis positively BURNS on every cut. Cookin' up an Omaha Bar-B-Q is Preston Love's specialty...but this soulful funk feast will be just as delicious no matter where you are.”

JUDY LYNN: Naturally (AMarett US 6?) cc rw Ex/M- 200:-

LÅTARNA LEVER: Folkmusik från Rättvik och Ore
(Giga SW 76) M-/M- 350:-
Legendary Swedish folk music private press underground rarity. Acknowledged among the contemporary Swedish psych/prog heads as ”the one that did it for them”. When this record was privately recorded (in their own home) and released the musicians Magnus Backstrom and Per Gudmundson only 18/19 years old (and still looking like they were on their way to a hippie gathering). They brought out some special old songs and played them in a impressive manner. One of the important pieces in the Swedish underground hippie folk music purist puzzle.

EUGENE MCDANIELS: HEADLESS HEROES OF THE APOCALYPS (Atlantic US re) NEW 150:-
Exact repro of this classic album from 1971. A monster album that's gone on to influence a generation, but which was barely recognized at the time! Singer Eugene McDaniels had scored big with some pop hits in the '60s under the name Gene McDaniels, but here, he steps out in a righteous batch of offbeat funk tunes filled with politics, offbeat rhythms, and some very weird instrumentation. The whole thing's awash in moody, jazzy changes of the style that showed up often in samples by Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, and other artists who drew keen inspiration from this record.

MODERNIZED THE SHADOWS THAI rw h2o Ex/M- 800:-
Fantastic surreal late 60s / early 70s Thai album mindblower probably by Son of PM. Has not been reissued.

It's a compilation of tracks taken from previously released 45s, plus the track "Lory" that only appeared on this album. Killer psych rock with strong Turkish flavour, this features Baris' all-time classics like "Derule" or "Daglar Daglar", as well as the brutal wah-wah flooded "Kucuk bir gece muzigi" with its infectious drumming. Not to be confused with the two different releases with the same name that actually have different tracklist and artwork, t this is the real album as it was originally released. Includes an insert with great shots and biography of Baris.

HARVEY MANDEL: Cristo Redenator (Philips US 68) M-/M- 490:-
US original Stereo in real nice shape (they’re usually trashed) , no cutout (it usually is). “This was Mandel's first album showcasing his great abilities, fluid dexterity on the fretboard, echoy leads, fuzz, it's all hear in a groovy setting of hip melodic self composed tracks...This gently psychedelic album from 1968, shows an impossibly young-looking Mandel pictured on the back artwork, a diminutive figure dwarfed by his big Gibson 355. The grooves within demonstrate not only his virtuosity on guitar, but also why his tenure with Canned Heat and John Mayall was so brief and why the Stones declined to hire him. Mayall described his technique as “Harvey’s wall of sound”, which aptly encompasses his early mastery of controlled feedback through his customised Bogan amplifier, and his later featuring of two-handed tapping, well before EVH got hold of that particular trick. This album is a rarity in poprock-psych terms; the only voice to be heard is that of a wordless soprano singer on the title track. However, the stylistic diversity of the tunes and the variety of the backing tracks means that it is by no means repetitive. It was mostly recorded in LA and Nashville, using the top rhythm section sessioneers of both camps: Art Stavro and Eddie Hoh from the Wrecking Crew, stalwarts of the early Monkees sessions, and Bob Moore and Kenny Buttrey, soon to anchor Dylan’s Nashville Skykine. The LA tracks also feature tight arrangements, while the Nashville ones benefit from Pete Drake’s sympathetic pedal steel accompaniment. The album as a whole is a classic late-night-listening record, beautifully laid-back groovy arrangements fronted by a bewildering array of restrained guitar tricks from Mandel, dazzling but never flashy or tasteless. The titles give the idea: “Lights Out”, “Nashville 1AM”, “Before Six”. “Cristo Redentor” is translated to Portuguese for Christ The Redeemer, and this title track is the exception to the album, being a solemn, flowing piece “Before Six” features some of Harvey’s most mind-boggling sustain work, the sound looping wildly between the stereo speakers, plus a mouth-watering cameo on Hammond by longtime LA collaborator Barry Goldberg and tasty backing arrangements stab throughout. “You Can’t Tell Me” is funkier than your average Nashville session, with Harvey wringing out the best Memphis scale licks ever heard, intertwining with Pete Drake’s slippery steel chords.”

MARCUS: From The House of Trax (Private re)M-/M- 390:-

M.H.S. ROCK – On Record
(RPC US 81) rw Vg++/Ex 1500:-
”Seven tracks by seven different bands from Manasquan High School in New Jersey. Bands include Armadillo, Pegasus, Dead-End, Voyager,  Runaways, Alternate Route, Mersey. They must have been in a time warp over there as the entire LP has an early to mid 70's sound with some heavy garage guitar psych tracks.  My faves are the moodier cuts like “The Little Girl Who Lived Light Years Away”. Only a handful of copies have turned up and being released on RPC it's probably a micro pressing so an extremely rare album.

MILAN THE LEATHER BOY: HELL BENT FOR LEATHER (LS re) NEW 220:-
Must-have vinyl only release. From his earliest incarnation in the record industry as a Xmas twister, the enigmatic Milan has changed his name and re-invented himself several times: a teen idol with a cute hairdo and a preppy look, a garage gonzo savage, an all dressed-in-black biker stud, a psychedelic screamer in love with satellite sounds and other characters known or waiting to be discovered. One thing is for sure, few people can claim so many identities in less than a decade. Composer, interpreter, producer & arranger, Milan is also all of these throughout the 60's. This anthology would like to pay homage to the man. The A side is dedicated to the singer and performer, and the B side to the producer and arranger. Unfortunately, Milan's fame was due to be short and by the end of the 60's he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and disappeared from the music business. Come along with him. Somewhere he survived, archangel on the highway following the sun. Soulin'.

 DRAGO MLINAREC: Pjesme S Planine (Jugaton Y 72) rw  Ex- /Ex+ 560:-
Pjesme s planine" (Eng. "Songs From The Mountain") was the second album of Drago Mlinarec, recorded and released in 1972, after he spent some time in the mountainous countryside where he wrote most of these songs. The backing band was titled PRIJATELJI (The Friends). I've had a couple other LPs by this guy that were so-so....but this one's great! Features two very long jamming guitar/organ westcoast monster tracks that go all the way along with folkrock, like the wonderful folk-rock epic of the title song with some hints of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young guitar sound,  & offbeat bluesy shorter tracks. LP is titled "Pjesme s Planine" from Yugoslavia 1972 on the Jugoton label # LPYVS-60995 and comes in a fab psychy mysterious gatefold cover. For my head, this beats any of the hardrock bands I've heard from there...it gets a more interesting flash to westcoast psych going down & the jam out long tracks are killers. Superb LP!

MOONDOG: The Viking of Sixth Avenue 2xLP (HJ UK re) M/M 210:-
Great overview of MOONDOG's amazing artistic life - including recordings spanning from 1949 till 1995, with numerous 78s and various other vanished records revived for the first time (not to mention a couple of Weegee photographs!). Though the compilation is rooted in the decades Moondog regularly lived rough in New York City, performing on street corners, at the same time it lays the music's claim to the future. It makes vivid sense of his inspiration of fans from Igor Stravinsky to Bob Dylan, Mr Scruff to Frank Zappa, Charlie Parker to Janis Joplin to Antony & The Johnsons. As Moondog put it himself in 1989 - 'I still love horned helmets and swords and spears. I like to feel that I'm loyal to my past. I wouldn't want to be on the street anymore. But, you know, that led to a lot of things.'

NEW JUGGLER SOUND: Trouble Childs 10” (EH SP re) M/M 170:-
Fantastic Peruvian 60s garage and psych Pre-Laghonia band. They started practicing and meeting up in Maranga, Peru, in 1965. Extremely influenced from the beginning by the Mersey Beat prevalent at that time, and guided by the exquisite vocal harmonies of the Byrds, they released two 45s on the RCA Victor label. Then the group soared higher into the psychedelic stratosphere and then got heavily in to the acid style. It’s all included here. Incredible sounds and great photos and full band history putting the music in context.

15:60:75 “THE NUMBERS BAND”: 2 (Water Bros US) M/M 450:-
”Cool, unique and pretty unknown one from time warped 1982. These guys peppered their soulful rock with jazzy jamming and a street-poet style of vocalizing to create a distinctive sound. Lots of saxophones, but plenty of guitar too. They're legends in Cleveland and some think they were one of the best live bands ever. A melting pot of inner city sounds grabbing you by the throat and shaking you down until you've forked over the $$$ needed to keep the Numbers Band party going with cocaine, women and Sly Stone records all night.“

ODMENN 2 x LP (Shad G re) NEW 540:-
2 x LP 500 numbered deluxe heavy gatefold sleeve and 4 page insert
This self titled album was the only one that Icelandic progressive rock trio Odmenn ever released. It was made at a critical point in Odmenn‘s history when the band members had agreed to take a sabbatical year while the guitarist studied law at the University of Iceland. They got together for the last time a year after the album was released and split up directly after having played only one gig. Odmenn was formed in early 1966 by the Johannsson brothers playing the most popular music clubs in Reykjavik. Most of Odmenn’s music could be categorised as protest songs or social studies touching topics like anti-war protest and fights against pollution, greed and deception balanced with more positive stances like hope for a better world with love and eternal brotherhood. "Psychedelic guitar pieces had become their trademark". Odmenn recorded this double album in Copenhagen with a release late December 1970. Odmenn made a great impression with their blooming mixture of energetic blues rock and was probably one of the best progressive rock bands in Northern Europe. 15 great songs released as a double album with massive 4 page insert and many photos plus  liner notes.

ORIENT EXPRESS (Mainstream US re) M-/M- 180:-
Really cool 60s oriental instro psych. Several deep tracks goes way beyond the exploito exterior.

OSSIAN (Muza Polskie Nagrania P) rw Vg+++/Ex 250:-
Killer psych folk trance lp from 1975 by this Polish this largely unknown band who toured a lot in Sweden, Denmark and Italy during the early 70s playing all kind of unusual venues including Swedish prisons. They describe themselves. They made several LPs but this is their best one for psych heads.

EMMANUELLE PARRENIN: Maison Rose (Ballon Noir/Lion US re) NEW 290:-
This is an album unlike any other. A revelation of a folk album, with songs of incredible beauty and innovative arrangements. It features traditional instruments you've hardly ever heard before and touches of the avant-garde. Parrenin had been part of a traditional "antique folk" movement in France in the late 1960s (she was in many ways a French equivalent to Sandy Denny or Mandy Morton); indeed, she had recorded eight albums with musicians from this scene before "Maison Rose"-her best, and last album, recorded in 1976 and released the following year. The record seems to alternate between a cosmic take on an ancient Breton sound, and delicate, multi-tracked ballads-ranging from sounds that would not be out of place on an Ash Ra Tempel album to elements of traditional French folk music (including home-made instruments) that are just as exotic. Certainly, the avant-garde edge lurking beneath the simple folkiness of "Maison Rose" puts in mind the explorations of Brigitte Fontaine with her sometime musical voyager Areski; there are also suggestions of the pastoral caranavserai aesthetic of Vashti Bunyan, as well as the multi-track sensuality of Linda Perhacs (to name two much-touted singers who seem to have a similar ability to enchant). But Parrenin has her own style, her music has its own deeply ethereal quality, and the album itself has its own magic spell to cast that renders comparison with other albums unimportant in the end. The highest quality mastering and pressing (done at Acoustech Mastering/RTI in California, the same people who master and press every title that audiophile label Classic Records makes); the resulting LP is housed in a poly-lined sleeve, inside an ultra-heavy 1960's style gatefold jacket, which is housed in a loose-fitting plastic sleeve. Inside the sleeve, you will find an insert with full details on Ms. Parrenin, printed on 100% recycled paper. The LP labels are replicas of the originals. A top of the line pressing all the way. Limited edition of 500 copies.

PARSON SOUND: 3 LP BOX SET (Subliminal Sounds SW) NEW 440:-
Pre-order now. Finally out on vinyl May 28! Deluxe triple LP box set. Limited edition of 1000 copies worldwide. Revised liner notes. A spectacular archival package of primitive drone and minimalist rock/trance/psych from the Swedish underground, one of the most memorable audio documents ever. The nucleus of the Swedish 1960's-70s underground psych rock scene: the legendary Pärson Sound. This deluxe 3-LP box set presents the most remarkable Swedish underground band, known in a later incarnation and continuation as International Harvester and Träd, Gräs och Stenar (Trees, Grass and Stones), and features both intricate studio recordings and orgiastic live performances. Pärson Sound never released any records in their time and that is why a very few have heard about them at all. The recordings date from 1967/68 while the band explored unknown musical territory as well as inner- and outer space. In 1968 they were invited by Andy Warhol to play at the opening of his exhibition: 'Screens, Films, Boxes, Clouds and a Book', at the museum of Modern Art in Stockholm and also opened for the Doors. Influenced by the musical concepts of Terry Riley, Pärson Sound worked at discovering and perfecting their own unique approach towards the mixing of rock and minimalism. They created some of the most remarkable psych- trance-drone-pre-noise music-rock sounds ever recorded. Pärson Sound's music described contexts, interplay and organic growth and shaped a conception of the world -- an opposite of fragmentation, individual achievements and intellectual construction. This world was to be perceived as one body, a whole of inviolable parts. The minimalist repetition with slight changes gives associations of a slow growth, of cyclic process, of breathing, pulse, life, movement and machines. The persistent repetition gives the listener an opportunity to discover the sounds, to meditate, to go into the music, join the same journey. Many times one can discover a relationship with music of other cultures. In comparison the music of the Western world can feel cursory, unreliable -- as a fear of entering deep into feeling. Pärson Sound's compositions often consist of harsh structures -- a rhythm pattern with ostinato bass, a melodic figure -- which forms a base for improvisation. Other songs have a more thoroughly elaborated structure that still leaves room for variation. The moment, the audience, the location formed their music. Their key phrase was 'We, Here and Now!' With time, the music came to have an increasing 'religious' or shamanistic streak -- with a raised demand of intensity, presence and warmth -- a striving for euphoria and ecstasy. The bands psychedelic approach towards music is so fresh and vital that it transcends time. Listen to it now! A 3xLP with an informative and revised liner notes in English and lots of photos.

PATTIE SISTERS AND ENTANG AND HIS COMETS (Diamond, Djakarta) Vg+++/g+++ 1300:-
Another amazing Indonesian early 70s album that mixes incredible stinging fuzz wah wah guitar psych and sweet female vocals with softer rock ballads. Enteng joins up with the Lovely Pattie Sisters and to my ears this sounds just like some of the best Cambodain 60s psych…but yeah it’s from Indonesia of course. Amazing sleeve too. Rare! Really clean disc and cover and very conservatively graded.

CHARLEY PATTON: Electrically Recorded: Prayer of Death (Monk re) M-/M- 140:-
From the granddaddy of Delta blues comes this incredible compilation of his greatest songs. Charley Patton's influence on music cannot be overstated. He began playing music around 1900 and by the time he was 19, about a decade later, he had already written his most popular tune "Pony Blues" and was on his way to becoming the first superstar of the Delta Blues and a household name. He was soon the most requested performer all over the South and influenced many young musicians, like Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker and Robert Johnson, to name a few. But it was not only his mastery of the guitar and incredible vocal style that gained him popularity. His rock star-style showmanship and stage antics - like playing guitar down on his knees or behind his back - with a girl on each arm and drink in hand after the show, made him the idol of young would-be musicians (and non) everywhere he played. And like a true rock star, by age 42 he was dead, which of course, only fuelled his fame.

CHARLEY PATTON: ELECTRICALLY RECORDED: HIGH WATER everywhere (Monk re) NEW 180:-
One step further into the life and music of this true superstar of early blues, this compilation features the two-part "High Water Everywhere", considered to be one of the greatest blues songs of all time, along with other pearls like "Devil Sent The Rain Blues", making this second episode of Monk's retrospective on Patton, another must have. Patton's ability to put the harsh everyday struggle of the Delta dwellers into music makes him one of the most enduring and soulful musicians in the entire history of Blues.

CHARLEY PATTON: ELECTRICALLY RECORDED: JESUS IS .a dying bed maker (Monk re) NEW 180:-
12 more tunes from Patton's 1929 recording sessions. Here the acknowledged "king of the Delta blues" performs some of his finest spiritual blues, like the title track, and "You're Gonna Need Somebody When You Die". One the most seminal blues artists of all time, this collection helps keep the legend alive.

JOE PHILLIPS: In Concert (Oval US) M-/M- 600:-
Super obscure late 60s private press rarity here. Breazy, jazzy late night seducto vibe monster. Big one for this game.

PHILOSOPHERS: Getting Down (P&S re)M-/M- 180:-
Long gone reissue including awesome bonus single cuts from great 60s jammy r&b psych with plenty of fuzz guitar and Hammond organ. Strongly recommended unknown here.

RISA POTTERS: Half Woman, Half Child (National General US) M-/M- 280:-
And not half bad either. I don't know who Risa is or what she's doing now, but back in the late sixties she was singing her little sweet heart out like a sexy late teen. Most intriguing is her backing band, who must have bumped into Ken Kesey before they dropped into the studio. Subtle but wonderfully mad and seldom pops up.

PRETTY THINGS: Singles 64-68 2xLP (Sundazed US re) M/M- 250:-
The blinding, sometimes visceral power of the ground can be heard on their early singles, an incredible four-year run that saw them evolving from raw-edged R&B rave-ups, through hard riffing Mod-flavored rock, melodic pop experiments, sometimes bending against their will to commercial pressures, to daring psychedelic pioneers. Few groups mastered so many genres so convincingly, nor with as much passion, conviction & bold creativity.

PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOP SERIES: Rock Improvisation Volume One (PMP US) ss toc rw Vg/Vg+++ 70:-
“ Rare Music library record.  It features three “country rock” cuts, three “rock” pieces, a “funk rock” selection, and a “blues” piece, all played by an instrumental rhythm band.  The idea is that you can play lead or improvise over the pieces with guitar or some other instrument.”

PRUFROCK: VISIONS
 (RD G re) NEW 195:-
Here is another lost and unreleased at the time Californian psychedelic masterpiece of the highest caliber from 1967! Only a few (if even a few) acetate 45 singles where known by this incredible great band from the Ojai, CA area. The recordings for an album were done in the Two:Dot Studios in 1967. (The same studios the ARTHUR recordings and e.g. HENDRICKSON ROADHOUSE came from) and the acetates were pressed in the legendary "Gold Star Studios" the same year. The music is a mixture of superb garage folk, swinging London style garage pop and heavy fuzz loaded psychedelic to the max tracks with some incredible great eastern influences! Lp comes with 4 page insert!

QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE: Maiden of the Cancer Moon 2xLP (Psycho UK 83) Ex/M-/M- 800:-
Original UK 2xLP issue. Superb US Psych Acid Rock....capturing the band in absolute peak form. This stunning live double album was recorded at the Fillmore East, June 1968 & from a Pacific high recording studios broadcast, again from '68. It contains perhaps the definitive versions of many of their classic tracks....the band never sounded so good. Even though the album was released in 1983 (now 28 years ago!), this is truly one of the all time great Psych albums and totally essential. This is the first and only pressing. A really nice copy and way rare.

QUINTESSENCE: In Blissful Company  (Island  UK 69) M-/Ex+   800:-
Pink Island 1st press  UK 1969 1ST ISSUE TRIPLE OPENING GATEFOLD, Amazing gimmick cover!
The first two Quintessence albums listed (the 2nd one below) here fully delivers the goods of cosmic uk underground psych. Riveting mixes of East and West effortlessly blending together into throbvbing freakouts…and all done by really talented musicians although they were true hippies living in a commune in Ladbrok Grove. Superb vocals, outstanding drumming; the rhythm simply pulsates, and killer guitar leads, flutes etc.

SOHAIL RANA: KHYBER MAIL (FK UK re) NEW 200:-
Khyber Mail' is an uber rare 1970 LP from Sohail Rana, a versatile maestro of film and pop composition who recorded countless Bollywood film score throughout the 70s. Choc-full of groovy eastern moods and sitar soul, original copies fetch big bucks as clued-up crate diggers have long sought out its key track, 'Soul Sitar', wild sitar funk with electric organ and surf guitar.

REFLECTIONS: The Unique Sounds of… (US) M-/M- OFFERS
Qouting Will Louivre/Companion Records spot on commentary here. “If you're the kind of person who buys homemade, locally-issued thrift store records in search of a more personal sound, this collection of instrumentals may be right up your alley. For us, the moods captured here are as deep and soulful as it gets for this genre.  Recorded in in drummer Harold Collins' parent's living room, this is the one and only document left behind by Louisiana's Reflections, who KO'd all comers in local battle of the bands contests and worked weekends at the Holiday Inn down the road in Slidell. This was 13 year old Collins' first professional gig and his drowsy, rat-a-tat-tat jazz style lends a flavourful back beat to the selections. The deft organ work and soul-stirring horn and guitar solos from Allis Murray is what pushes this one over the top. Incredibly, she performed all three instruments at once, working the organ with a foot pedal. "Would you believe a five-piece band with only two people in it?" begins the liner notes... "We're not putting you on. The sounds you will hear on this album are two people...No double-track recording tricks, no extra help -- just two of the best musicians...playing their favourite numbers." Multi-tasking aside, what lures us are the haunting moods captured in Murray originals "Autumn in the Air" and "Evening by the Sea" and cover tunes like "Moonlight in Vermont". The rickety, upbeat jazz/surf numbers are brimming with personality as well, in fact if the whole album were made up of these, it'd still be a top thrift store keeper. Original vinyl copies are virtually non-existent”.

JOHN RYDGREN: Worlds of Youth (Concordia US) srw Vg+++/Ex- OFFERS
"Mindblowing 1968 LP from John Rydgren in conjunction with Herbert Brokering. Contains 9 spoken word pieces with musical backing, similar in content and style to the Silhouette Segments LP but even rarer. Rydgren's convoluted brilliance is in full form here and it even includes a couple of rare examples of Rydgren singing. This is an extremely cool Christian psych artefacts. "'The legacy of John Rydgren was one of the most enigmatic in radio-jock if not also record history. A Lutheran evangelist, Rydgren started a hit program called Silhouettes. As with Ken Nordine, his thoughts were highly original, ranging from quirky perceptions of the mundane to deep acid-head philosophy. Distributed to free to radio stations, Worlds of Youth and Silhouette Segments never was commercially released because of licensing difficulties. It remains an obscure and treasured memento of the radio program. The LP was given heavy airplay in Vietnam, however. Questioning life's meta assumptions within a reassuring pop context, it was a natural for soldiers. And for everyone its juxtaposition of the antipodes of hip and square continue to blow minds"

JOHN RYDGREN: Silhouette Segments(US 6?)  rw Ex/M-/M- OFFERS
Rare  2xLP original of this masterpiece.

JOHN RYDGREN: Cantata for Life (US 6?) ss  Ex/M- OFFERS
A project of the Lutheran Church, celebrating the 450th anniversary of the Reformation. Side 1 is "The Cantata of New Life", an avant garde/contemporary religious choral work, with elements of classical music, jazz, rock and psychedelia, complete with trippy narration (the baritone voice of John Rydgren), in a Ken Nordine or Rod McKuen style. This one goes way beyond what one would expect. Hands down one of the most amazing and mind blowing heavy trips put on wax. Side 2 features "12 New Life Radio Spots", each a strange musical vignette, with the same unusual Ken Nordine-with-a-gospel-message narration. Hip, spooky, campy and weird! One of the coolest records you've never heard! Cantata is composed by Robert Way, with text by John Rydgren.

SAGA (Sonet SW 74) Ex-/M- 2000:-
The truly rare original first press light brown label. This is an album virtually connected with the group November via the bass and vocalist Christer Stalbrandt and parts of the album sounds exactly like November circa 1972, which of course is awesome. But even better are a couple of tracks in a even more psychedelic vein like “Djävulens läppar” (The Devis lips).  The dynamic guitar wizard Mats Norrefalk really delivers. The songs are all complex heavy prog psych with a dark and haunting vibe. Don't miss this one. Has the plastic tape seal on the opening of the sleeve as most Swedish albums from the time. These were used in most every record shop to seal the covers much to the annoyance of record collectors later. The tape should be possible to remove though if you are careful.

MIKE SAMMES SINGERS/RED TAYLOR ORGANIZATION:  HYMNS SWINGING (Davjon UK re) 200:-
Long deleted exact re of rare early 70s legendary UK easy listening jazz madness starring God. This album is legendary for many reasons; Tubby Hayes is playing on it, the Mike Sammes Singers are the vocalists and the arrangements are absolutely insane, moving from hard Latin jazz, through occasional swings and odd psych. Most of the hymns are hard to recognise until the vocals kick in,  Marvellous and totally unique.

The bands eponymous first album, released on KAPP in 1968, enjoyed a 10-week stay in Billboards Top 100 list, and the albums first track, Oscillations, made the Top 10 list in numerous cities around the US. The music critics loved them. "Whats so amazing is that they make absolutely mind-shattering music with all this junky equipment" commented one. Unreleased at the time recordings from 1970/71 by this band from North Carolina with member STEPHEN SCOTT, formerly of LADIES WC, the legendary band from Venezuela. The music on this album was recorded partly in the studio and partly live when SPEED LIMIT 35 was the opening act for STEPPENWOLF in April 1970. What you hear are fantastic long heavy psychedelic/westcoast styled jams with great guitar leads. It sounds like a mixture between KRISTYL, CHIRCO and TAYLES. (Xotic Mid/Subliminal Sounds 95)M/Ex OFFER
450 copies only and long out of print from 1995. Noisy pressing as all copies. We are caught in a spiral of sound where the musicians contribute to a re-lightning of the Westcoasts electrically burning sun and the magic of the orient. Here one breaths an unusual kind of air, aboard a ship that travels through seas of …dreams and a mild worry or buried under mountains of fuzz guitars. We’re not talking about an ordinary record but a sweet sour fully calibrated work, a worthy and definitive consecration... – Rockerilla Italy 1995

S.T. Mikael: In Harmony  (XMLP-SUB25) NEW 199:-
A brand new, and heavily mind-bending, album from the mysterious and legendary Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist.  “In Harmony” is the 2nd volume, and the natural conclusion, to the recordings S.T. Mikael partially made with Fredrik Bjorling and Reine Fiske (of Dungen) and which were introduced with the album “Mind of Fire”. The last albums closing track “Gyrax,  an ode to the ancient mushroom-cults, points the  way to the new album. “In Harmony” is dedicated to our arch Mother, Nature, and all the treasures and mysteries it contains. The first track “Mother is Calling” signals this from the outset and his fifteen minute epos “Higher”, which Mikael performs as a one-man-band, tells about the blissful happiness he has received from that which springs from, and grows, in nature. As our world is changing more and faster S.T. Mikael says that it is important that we partake in the psychedelic communion and listen to each other…before it’s too late. Try it! Limited edition of 500 copies and vinyl only.

ST MIKAEL: Mind of Fire
LP (XMLP-SUB22) NEW 200:-
Housed in a gatefold sleeve + printed inner bag. Incredibly enough, but very naturally, after 11-years silence here’s a new album by this mysterious and legendary Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist. S.T. Mikael spearheaded the DIY psychedelic rock/folk movement of the late 1980s-mid-90s, with a collection of mind-bending albums. During his long absence S.T Mikael grew more secretive and reclusive, but all the while he was still writing music. Now that he’s finally back here’s at last a chance for to join in to his psychedelic world again. The music, stretching out in many different musical directions, has been done freely and spontaneously in an extremely relaxed and happy environment, where Mikael joined forces with Dungen’s Reine Fiske and Fredrik Björling, who’s musical expertise now also grace the grooves.

Jade Stone & Luv

JADE STONE & LUV: Mosaics; Pieces of Stone LP (Subliminal Sounds 08) NEW 200:-
Limited edition of 500 copies exact reissue of the original but including a rare 45 cut + gatefold sleeve and colour innerbag with liner notes. The sole album from male-female duo Jade Stone & Luv is a lost gem from the heart of the psychedelic 1970s. Composed and self-produced in Nashville, “Mosaics; Pieces Of Stone” went unnoticed by the music industry upon release. Fortunately for us, it didn’t disappear forever, but simply went into retreat, biding its time. While almost unknown outside specialist circles, “Mosaics” has been an underground cult favorite for many years. The combination of top-level songwriting, skillful guitar/keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals is just too impressive to ignore. And beyond these obvious qualities, the album has something subtle and unique, a magnetic power that keeps drawing the listener back. One of Jade Stone & Luv’s earliest advocates was the legendary New York City musicologist Paul Major. Here’s a typical Major impression of the music on “Mosaics”:"Groovy love vibes thru a prism of jade statues in swinging singles apartment complex action... Cadillac with fuzzy dice, feather boa, lotsa cigarette burns, stale perfumed ashen air. This album in the 8-track player at 5 AM with someone you don't even know passed out in the backseat, as you head to the diner to meet up with an early-bird Lava Lite salesman who deals pills on the side. Bubbly champagne molecules become the plastic vinyl booths in dim-lit dive bars; it's crackerbox post-war suburban low-rent psychedelic…" The album’s cinematic qualities were also highlighted in a review in the recent Acid Archives book, which deals with vintage underground music:“…The music is notoriously hard to describe, but projects scenes of all-night cruising through Edge City... a hip which is not metropolitan hip, but dreams of stardom and glamour from the American underbelly, two renegade souls zooming down the highway between Austin and Nashville...”After 30 years, this rare experience is finally available for general consumption. Done in collaboration with Jade Stone himself.

SHARK MOVE: CHEDE CHOKRA'S (Shadoks G re) NEW 390:-
450 numbered ltd. Shark Move started playing in Bandung, Indonesia in 1970 and was founded by Benny Soebardja who play lead guitar and sings. Shark Move is one of the Indonesian rock pioneers who combined rock music with traditional harmonies and progressive sounds. Some songs on this LP using English lyrics, while other bands at that time where still playing sweet music, this is really an experimental recording. Unfortunately at the end of 1970 the keyboard player passed away so Benny decided not to continue with his band and formed a new on named Giant Step. A very complex prog album which is as strong as many good UK albums of the same period but it has this little extra which makes this album unique and great.

THINK DOG: Dog Days (SHADOKS re) NEW 380:-
350 numbered, heavy vinyl, heavy cover, 2 page insert. This is the second album after "TIME-before there was", recorded in 1969/70 in New York City. Lynn David Newton, Tom McFaul, Richard Stanley, Bob Stuhler (the drummer of HOT TUNA) and David Rosenboom (on 1 track) recorded 60 minutes of creative music which was never released before. Again, this is a musical masterpiece, well-composed, well-crafted, touchy and twisted songs with a big influence from the British Underground. On some tracks the vocals sound like Robert Wyatt in the early 70´s. If you like the Canterbury sound, art-rock with Underground roots, you will love this one. The album has 16 tracks, 45 minutes of music.

TOY FACTORY (Avco Embassy US 6) rw/M- 700:-
For this style, this LP rules...hyper pop psych sound with lotsa killer fuzz guitar and a vocalist so over the top it will appeal to fans of hard softrock as well as the strange. Utterly berserk heavy guitar version of "Summertime", acid pop dosed "What Is Youth", terrific originals like "No Rhyme To Orange", "Little Girl", "Things"...whole LP is hot & the best one I know of in this bag. You will not believe the singer! On the small Avco Embassy label # AVE 33013 and my fave LP on that label personally. Guy who got my last spare copy loved it. VG+/M- has light cover wear and couple inches of seam split at top of cover. Highly recommended if you want some berserk power pop psych action from 1969. And it’s really seriously rare.

tgsTRAD GRAS och STENAR: Homeless Cats (XMLP-SUB 32) 2xLP 240:-
Limited edition of 1,000 copies ltd worldwide. Just in time for Trad Gras och Stenar (Trees Grass and Stones) 40-year anniversary the Swedish psychedelic trance-rock pioneers releases a new album - Homeless Cats. The first one in seven years and the seventh since the singing start in 1969. Eleven new boundless tracks with organic music for open minds. A 40-year anniversary is actually rather on the small. Back in 1967 the guitarist BoAnders Persson had already started his Terry Riley-inspired underground band Parson Sound with the bass player Torbjorn Abelli and drummer Thomas Mera Gartz, amongst others. They evolved into International Harvester, then Harvester, and finally striking root as Trad Gras och Stenar in 1969. The following year they arranged, end performed at, the legendary Swedish Gardes-festivals that pioneered the Swedish alternative music movement. Trad Gras och Stenar creates their own contemporary music, even if they have been compared to Krautrockers like Can and Faust internationally. Rhythmic heart pumping and sound streaming, sure – but at the same time peculiarly Swedish, with their roots in the mould and with branches that reaches high up in to the clear air. The new album, “Homeless Cats”, has also been able to develop in its own tempo. It was recorded by the band themselves during the period 2002-2007, mostly under jam-like forms in the bands rehearsal house and studio in Viksund -  Sweden, but also live at gigs. During this period they also toured Europe, USA, Russia and Japan. In the meaty album booklet they give us a couple of personal travelogues. Trad Gras och Stenar have evolved a clear and mature sound with space enough for both suggestive heaviness and mind-expanded searching. The eleven new tracks bubbles and seethe. The band members build soundscapes all together where the music is allowed to grow forth freely. Sometimes the mostly instrumental tracks are irresistibly captivating as well as evolving seemingly weightlessand and sometimes it becomes like a plow in turbo tractor pace wrenches deep furrows in the stone field. Homeless Cats makes it’s mark. Heavy, at the same time vertiginous. Timeless. Trad Gras och Stenar has lost non of their spark… on the contrary and that  is why the band is still touring worldwide. This new album is amazing; for the first time their whole mind-blowing live experience have been translated in to an album…much like the Deads “Anthem of the Sun”. I mean these guys are soon pushing 70 and are still playing the US cost to cost in a small van, touring Japan sleeping in temples on mountain tops. They are still living on the edge and playing like it really means something to them. In fact they are playing as their lives depended on it…and it really does.

TRÄD GRÄS OCH STENAR: Gärdet 12.6.1970 2xLP (SUB-075-LP) NEW 300:-
Limited edition of 500 copies only 2x LP No doubt one of the best recordings of legendary Swedish psych-rockers Trad Gras Och Stenar. (Other Music) Recorded in June 12 1970 and the sound is just amazing: a stoned lysergic wall of acid guitars jamming away and never letting up, pounding bass, furious drums and mystical howling vocals. A true landmark and cornerstone in Swedish psychedelic music history and there’s nothing like this bunch of progressive hippie Swedes reared on minimalism. Comes in a deluxe package; gatefold sleeve, printed inner bags, and splash coloured vinyl. Contains a mind-bending sidelong previously unreleased track, revised liner notes and loads of previously unpublished photos.

TROPICALIA: Ou Panis Et Circensis (Lillith Russia re) NEW 190:-
Music from 1968 revolution lead by Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, not to mention Gal Costa and mutant rockers Os Mutantes. Not only were the artists experimenting with the music, they were also making a very strong political statement that spoke out very harshly against the military regime in Brazil at the time. This album helped land Veloso and Gil a brief stint in jail and eventually in political exile in the UK.

GILL TRYTHALL: Country Moog (Pandora/Synthe US) Ex/Ex150:-
Moog -- with a twang! Excellent album by the enigmatic Gil Trythall -- a moog musician who turned his talents towards the sound of 60s Nashville, with some incredible results! The format is simple -- take country hits, strip them down, and fill them with cool electronics and moogy bits -- so that they come out sounding as if they were recorded by Perry & Kingsley after getting drunk at a line dancing party. Tracks are a good mix of originals and covers.

CAETANO VELOSO (Philips Brazil 69) rw stoc Vg/Vg 200:-
”With such musical collaborators Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Tom Zé and Os Mutantes, Veloso developed tropicalismo, which fused Brazilian pop with rock and roll and avant garde music resulting in a more international, psychedelic, and socially aware sound. Veloso's politically active stance, unapologetically leftist, earned him the enmity of Brazil's military dictatorship; his songs were frequently censored, and some were banned. Veloso was also alienated from the socialist left in Brazil because of his acceptance and integration of non-nationalist influences (like rock and roll) in his music. Veloso and Gilberto Gil spent several months in jail for "anti-government activity" in 1968 and eventually exiled themselves to London. Caetano Veloso's work upon his return in 1972 was often characterized by frequent appropriations not only of international styles, but of half-forgotten Brazilian folkloric styles and rhythms as well.

"Finally the second album of the amazing trilogy by Brazilian star Ronnie Von from the late 1960s. This is a collection of 12 psychedelic pop songs, with unique arrangements and songwriting, featuring violins, reverse guitars, brass, piano and psychedelic effects. Even more innovative than the previous albums and nothing like what you have heard before, some songs are epic, some tropicalia, and some others are just pop masterpieces. Limited to 500 copies.

RONNIE VON: A MAQUINA VOADORA (re) NEW 225:-
This is the last and maybe best album in the trilogy, titled "A Maquina Voadora" (the flying machine). I don't think it's possible to describe how greatly composed and balanced this album is, truly one-of-a-kind songs. Both mid and slower tempo tunes are mixed here, including all kind of effects and Ronnie's enchanting voice, which fits perfectly the mysterious and melancholic songs in this album. Just listen to it, read the lyrics, look at the cover and let yourself fly into Ronnie's dreamy twisted mind. Nothing you would expect from a French record,   really… this is 100% USA early 70's sounding stuff,   West Coast folk-  rock with a psychedelic edge,   CSNY feel,   acoustic & electric guitars,   some fierce fuzz assaults,   English vocals… an incredible discovery! The original pressing came with plain white cover,   and a few copies were later pasted-  on with a few very low quality photos. For this reissue,   we have you  get that paste-  on collage,   and added some more stuff in the back-  cover with photos from Serge's archive. Fully re-mastered sound,  liner notes and limited to 500 copies.

Limited edition 500 copies deluxe 2xLP in a gatefold sleeve. It's time for us to unleash the ultimate Swedish early 70s underground psych funk erotica groove record! Yes you've heard about the Swedish sin but here's the ultimate proof. Not only were the hippies practicing free-love but they recorded some dirty music too. In the early 70s legendary outsider artist genius/madman Tom Zacharias, together with the cream of Swedish studio musicians, some beautiful Swedish hippie nymphs and a bunch of drugged out freaks, recorded two ultra rare LPs called "Belinda" and "the Daughters of Belinda". Both of these which are now mega rare collectors items that never turn up, even in Sweden. These two masterpieces, with their XXX-rated lyrics, were recorded with both Swedish and English lyrics but only the Swedish language versions were ever released. Even though adds were put out in both Screw magazine and Mayfair the English language versions were kept in the can. U We present both versions + some real sleazy bonus tracks that were not on the CD edition + extended liner notes re-telling the previously untold story of how this came to be. Great groovy, funky acid erotica with loads of gurgling fuzz/wha-wha guitars, booming bass, wicked drum beats and over the top XXX erotic lyrics!!

V/A: BOLLYWOOD BLOODBATH   2Xlp  (FK UK re) NEW     250:-
This musical mausoleum of malformed freak funk and dreadful discothèque pop has been resurrected from the maligned cinematic subculture of Bombay's bloodthirsty horror film industry. Bollywood Bloodbath features India's finest composers, such as Bappi Lahiri, R.D Burman, Sonik Omi, Sapan Jogmohan and Laxmikant Pyarelal making the kind of radical risk-rock that would under normal circumstances have studio security escorting these overworked maestros off set for a well-earned break or a relaxing exorcism. Take all the most oblique, indigenous characteristics of your favourite Bollywood musicals then condense them into a bubbling serum and watch the Jekyll and Hyde transformation commence as these A-list composers create bloodcurdling B-Music for the films they never thought the outernationals would see or hear. You've heard Italy's most famous composers when they soundtrack unwatchable Roman slasher flicks with on their own uncompromised and underpaid terms? Well that blueprint just turned blood red with sub-shoestring, low-budget studio wizards gambling with rigamortis rock, disjointed disco and low-voltage electronics for seldom screened scenes of desi Draculas, lycanthropic lady killers and psyched-up swamp monsters. Ever wondered what the DJ would play in a 1981 luxury hotel that was built on an ancient Christian cemetery? No? Well it sounds like someone just got possessed by Jimmy Page and Nile Rodgers at the same time. But sance fiction aside the factual history of the unravelled Bollywood horror phenomena is fully re-exhumed with this compendium. Carefully documenting the drummy theme from the first-ever 1949 Indian ghost film this benchmark collection follows the sinister lineage as directors of bloody thrillers take chances on shuddering synopsis and haywire sonic special effects. Leading up to the inauguration of the notorious Ramsay Bros film company (whose sibling revelry in the 70s and 80s lead to the inclusion of flight-style puke bags in participating picture houses) this compilation pulls no punches and plunges the 'B' of Bombay into the heart of the b-movie and squirts a masala of bloody ketchup and red wine onto the sets of Bollywood's glorious filmic musicals. Licensed exclusively from the independent Indian film music companies (revealing incidental tracks that they didnt even know they owned)”

V/A: GOOD GOD! 2 x LP (Guerilla US re) NEW  200:-
Heavy funk covers of James Brown from all over the world 1968-1974.Imitations, interpolations and the inspiration of Sly Stone on a collection of rare records from the 60s-70s. We're talking, of course, about Sylvester Stewart, aka Sly Stone, the Vallejo, California-raised Funk phenom whose output with his Family Stone certainly rivalled that of JB and his many disciples. Sure, Sly could rip Funk with the best of 'em. His "Sing A Simple Song" inspired the Meters to create one of the few covers on their coveted trio of Josie-label LPs and is the backbone of Ike and Tina Turner's funkiest moments, "Bold Soul Sister."

V/A: GUITAR MOOD 2 (Repent re) NEW 160:-
It's been a long wait since the demise of the much-loved 'Guitar Mood' LP a few years ago, but here's a second volume of obscure but very tasty guitar instrumentals from the 1960s! Japanese surf guitar legend TAKESHI TERAUCHI checks in with two tunes: his rockin' version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony, and the Baja surfin' tune 'Kokkyo No Machi'. Turkish Fender whiz (and snappy dresser) Mesut Aytunca of SILUETLER shows off with two tunes from 1965 and 1966, along with fellow Turks HARAMILER's fried Middle Eastern instro-rocker from 1967. LOS ORIENTALES DE PARAMONGA and MANZANITA Y SU CONJUNTO, both from Peru, contribute two frantic guitar cumbias, while two more Peruvian bands, LOS SIDERALS and LOS BELKINGS, turn up the echo and the fuzz respectively for two surfy instros. Colombia's PEDRO JAIRO GARCES and his band contribute a 3-part Latin medley complete with accordion parts, Britain's VIC FLICK, the guy behind the original 007 guitar sound, drops a rather strange Afro-flavored one, but AFROSOUND is pure Latin with plenty of Cuban-style percussion and some sort of weird rumbling sound effect, though Finland's BLAZERS come in with a very melodic, heavy-echo-drenched surf-style instro. The USA is represented by a 1959 VENTURES-style instro from BILL COLLINS and a goofy number from THE PASTEL SIX. Enjoy!

V/A: Home Schooled: The ABCs of Kid Soul  2 x LP (Numero US re) NEW 230:-
You know Michael, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie, but what about Altyrone Deno Brown, Michael Washington, or Little Murray & The Mantics? Home Schooled, the 16th record in Numero's library of the lost, looks at the unknown side of the early '70s kid soul revolution. Beyond the Osmonds, The Five Stairsteps, and the Brighter Side of Darkness lay hundreds of aspiring children (or parents) bent on becoming the next Michael. Numero has selected 16 of our favorites. A detailed and photo-stuffed booklet breaks down the history of the phenomena, while the disc straddles the line between historical artifact and wild mix tape.

V/A: LAGOS DISCO INFERNO 2xLP (Academy US re) NEW 260:-
Some call it disco, some call it boogie, we call it the LAGOS DISCO INFERNO: 12 smokin' rarities straight from Nigeria, dating back to '76-82. Surprisingly familiar, yet intriguingly foreign, these tracks sound just as fresh today as they did 30+ years ago. This record is rife with horns, moog and bells and whistles to keep you up all night. Great liner notes by Dean Disi (journalist and former executive of TYC Records, Lagos) and a special message from extreme record hunter Damian Iwuagwu (Lagos). Following the footsteps of amazing African reissues of late such as Ofege (Academy LPs), Pax Nicholas and the Netty Family (Daptone), Ghana Special (Soundway), this album stands alone as the first compilation to focus on African disco. But make no mistake, you won't hear any cheesy strings or nasty Roland synths. This is straight up tough NIGERIAN DISCO FUNK! Comes in luxury double gatefold LP cover.

Luk Thung evolved out of a complex stew of traditional folk styles and international influences. Wild accordions and Latin horn sections mingle with Thai hand drums and finger cymbals, while exquisite vocalists swagger and sing stories about life's struggles.

V/A: LUKK OPP KIKENS DORER (PS re) NEW 220:-
'THROW OPEN THE CHURCH DOORS'. A SELECTION OF NORWEGIAN CHRISTIAN JAZZ, PSYCH, FUNK & FOLK 1970-1980. This compilation documents the Norwegian progressive Christian music scene that grew out of the Ten Sing-movement (Teenage Singing) and Jesus revolution at the end of the 1960s. Within a few years the Christian music industry in Norway became almost as powerful as the secular, with the rise of new labels, festivals and fan clubs. With a wish to throw open the churchs doors to new cultural expressions, Christian youth all over Norway created a now forgotten catalogue of albums with jazz, psychedelic, beat, funk and folk mixed with a Christian message. Twenty nuggets from this obscure music catalogue are now gathered on this release. It took a while for the Norwegian church to ask itself the question: why should the devil have all the good music? If one search through the massive heaps of Norwegian EPs released on the Christian record companies Ansgar. ETON and Klango before 1970, you will find hours of congregation house quartets and choirs. But with the great transformations within youth and popular culture in the 1960's there also came a great renewal within Norwegian church music. The Pentecostal church started a youth label JOY for their label KLANGO and Forum Experimentale went on to become the record company Kirkelig Kulturverkested (The Churches Cultural Workshop). Here one finds a hidden and fantastic catalogue of progressive and experimental Christian music. From the gritty fusion funk and electric jazz of Good News and That Why to progressive folk by singer songwriters such as Grete Salomonsen and Kari Hansa and Gregers Hes. Also unearthed are the psychedelic sounds of Crossing and KERYX to rock-musicals by Arnold Brud and Angelos. If one wonders what the Christian people danced to late at night just listen to disco, beat and funk gems by Heflex and Presens.

V/A: MICHIGAN MELTDOWN (Coney Dog re) NEW 190:-
This compilation's subtitle is 'Post-Garage Pandemonium And Pre-Punk Fuzz Freaks From The Mitten State's Milken Era'. As over-anthologized Detroit (and Michigan) are in terms of their florid musical history, 'Michigan Meltdown' manages to collect twelve examples of post-garage paranoia and pre-punk fuzz spanning from the late '60s through the mid '70s, all previously uncompiled and unbelievable. While indebted to similar efforts of the past decades like 'Michigan-Brand Nuggets', 'Michigan Mayhem' and 'Michigan Mixture', the significant accomplishment of 'Michigan Meltdown' is that it manages to ably carve its own niche. Whereas these previous comps focused on tenderly naive garage rock and blissfully optimistic psychedelia, the tone here is decidedly darker. With multiple songs about Satan, intergalactic travel and drug abuse, the subject matter is a solid indicator of the actual desperation, escapism and despair that was de rigeur in the area during the era. Mastered directly from the original 45's (NOT mp3's) for that warm, full analog sound and paired with informative and hilarious liner notes. Limited to 500 copies.

Composer Laurent Petitgirard recorded under the name of Aleph a first 7" titled Toccata/Tin Song (Disques AZ, 1969), then a second, Love Memories/Injection (Disques AZ, 1969). Finally, he wrote the Pop Instrumental de France album and, in only three days, recorded it in the studio Wagram in Paris with a band specially created for this occasion. But during the recording process, there was some room left for improvisation also, Laurent Petitgirard having written everything except for some choruses. On drums was the great Andr Sitbon, Etienne Pclard was on violin), Patrice Quentin was playing sax and flute, Patrick Mondon was another violinist a first-rate casting with Laurent Petitgirard himself playing all the keyboard parts: piano, harpsichord, Hammond organ. Originally released in 1971.

SPANISH CINEMATIC GROOVES & FUNKY SOUNDTRACKS, 1968-1978. In the late sixties and early to mid seventies, while Spain was still under Franco's last years of dictatorship, Spanish cinema entered two important periods known as "Landismo" (named after actor Alfredo Landa) and "Destape" (The Strip Period). Lots of bizarre, soft-erotic/comedy and exploitation films were shot, most of them featuring groovy and delirious soundtracks. Serious and well-respected musicians like Anton Garca Abril, Adolfo Waitzman and Gregorio Garcia Segura incorporated the latest musical trends which came from other European countries like Italy and France to their work. This was a frenetic period, in which these composers adopted the hip and modern sounds of the time to their compositions for soundtracks, mixing them with their Spanish roots, resulting in an avalanche of incredible soundtracks for exploitation films. Virtually every Spanish comedy/exploitation/action film released during 1968 and 1974 included the typical scene of "young people dancing to groovy music at the club full of weird hippies", especially if the directors were people like Pedro Lazaga and Mariano Ozores and the cast featured actors like Alfredo Landa or Jos Luis Lopez Vasquez. Sadly, the majority of these soundtracks are lost forever, as they were never released on vinyl and the audio master tapes usually were erased or ended up in the trashcan. On 'Psicotronica' you'll find tracks taken from real soundtracks along others which sound 100% cinematic but were never included in any film. All of them taken from unknown records released in Spain between 1968 and 1978, including many rare library private recordings. A real fest of Spanish styled blaxploitation & library grooves, psychedelic funk full of flute, fuzz and wah-wah guitars, Hammond grooves, sexploitation sounds, bossa-scat nuggets, thriller-spy-action grooves.... Released at the same time, the two Psicotronica volumes feature a different musical theme on each side and are housed in cool full colour picture sleeves. Carefully remastered sound plus insert with detailed liner notes in English / Spanish

V/A: RAKS RAKS RAKS (EU re) NEW 180-
Out of print album with 17 golden garage psych nuggets from the Iranian 60s scene! Raks Discos is proud to present one of the most anticipated as well as unexpected compilations from the global depths of 60s and 70s rock'n'roll: The Persian scene. Let alone coming across with a representative compilation, even solid evidences of such a scene has not been seen until now and has been largely suspected, maybe save for a select few of eager garage and psychedelic record collectors and enthusiasts of worldwide rock, who have been trying to hunt such sounds on the internet and private collectors' circles, usually to no avail. Needless to say, the most important factor in this has been the obvious hideously rare status that Iran's pre-Revolution East-West cross cultural artefacts are in right now. As with almost all Asiatic countries, the Shadows and the Ventures seem to be the true and primal influence in the Iranian music scene of the most part of 60s for the rock sound and attitude to penetrate the country's fledgeling record industry and its swinging public base. In 1964, the legendary Top4 company opened up and started releasing choice chart hits from the worldwide lists, on 4-track EPs, followed soon by MonoGram and other companies. These mixed up records featured a lot of popular songs of the day, spanning the whole European continent i.e. including what's referred to now as 'Euro pop' hits and the 'big brothers', UK and US charts. The day's youth back then was lucky: they could follow the West moment by moment now. The foremost impact of these were to feature and spread British invaders, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, otherwise available only on radio. Come 1966, 60s was in full swing in Iran too!

V/A: SOUL BRAZA, VOL. 1 (NS re) NEW     240:-
BRAZILIAN 60's & 70's SOUL PSYCH'. As well as rock, soul music by the likes of James Brown, Otis Redding, and Aretha Franklin also had a big impact in the Brazilian music scene of the 60s. Soul music was introduced in Brazil by singers such as Gerson King Combo, who released in 1969 the record Gerson Combo Brazilian Soul, featuring Brazilian hits like Asa Branca performed with a US-imported beat. Tim Maia, Carlos Daf, and Tony Tornado started playing soul hits too and took on the attitude and style of US Black Power, establishing the Black Rio movement. The great muse of that period was Lady Zu from Sao Paulo. Traces of the black US rhythm can also be detected in some of the first songs by Jorge Ben Jor (Agora Ningum Mais Chora, Negro Lindo, Que Nega Essa), and, even more so, in others by Wilson Simonal during his Pilantragem phase (such as Mamae Passou Acar em Mim, Pas Tropical, Tributo a Martin Luther King). Other more obscure bands and artists also had their moment and importance in the history of Brazilian soul. Musicians like O Incrivel Manito, The Pops, fusing soul, samba rock, and psychedelic music, Tony e Frankye, Trio Ternura, and, of course, a few others like Vanusa or Eduardo Araujo, who released some of the best Brazilian music records in the 60s and 70s. This compilation is a summary of what went on during that dictatorship period when soul music was everywhere, from the favelas to the most fashionable and popular parties in Brazilian cities. Here you will find some of the best tracks of Brazilian psychedelic soul music, a fusion of fuzz, sweat and dancing...

V/A: THE SOUND OF SIAM 2 x LP (SW UK re) NEW 250:-
Leftfield Luk Thung, Jazz and Molam from Thailand 1964-1975'. Limited 2LP set. Thailand means different things to different people. Beyond the beaches and tourist spots lies a world of music still waiting to be discovered. Be it spaced out jazz, raw funk or the meditative sounds of the North East, Dug deep into the country's vinyl archives to present a broad range of vintage sounds that underlines Thailand's status as one of South East Asia's musical hot spots. The Sound of Siam offers a unique vantage point to the most experimental period in Thai musical history. The 19 tracks reflect the outcome of a twentieth century journey from Thai classical to Luk Krung and Luk Thung - music that incorporated western influences such as jazz, surf guitar, ballroom and even Latin and African. The music maps changing social demographics, the movement of people, culture and language from countryside to city and all during a period when the record labels were at their most experimental.

V/A: STEM KODOK (Grey Past NL re) M-/M- 180:-
This long out of print this compilation is a remarkable historical document of the effect rock music had on the East. Up until 1961, the South-East Asian scene was almost entirely instrumental; music was situational: culturally significant, but otherwise insignificant per se. As the Western influence crept in via the increasingly popular Beatles ana late 1961 concert by Cliff Richard and The Shadows, South-East Asia eschewed the musical collective and embraced the concept of the "band"-- steady members, writing songs for their own entertainment. These songs are utterly enjoyable. South-East Asian musicians were hardly big-budget pop stars, nor did they taut extensive rock pedigrees, and therein lies the charm of Steam Kodok: singers' voices are incongruous but delightfully honest, and the actual compositions  have such a passion. The positive energy of each song is just staggering-- Steam Kodok is the sound of a culture thrilled by the prospect of rock-and-roll, overjoyed and unable to stop smiling. "Ali San" starts things off appropriately, a lounge-y instrumental with an aching country-western melody traded back and forth between guitar and keyboard, haunted every so often by a bird-like flute trill. Steam Kodok aims to present a broad survey of the 60s a-go-go scene, and instrumental groups were the first among it; the Eastern flair of the song is immediately apparent, and perfectly encapsulates the worlds-collide motif. As the Singapore beat scene progressed, the singer became more than just an afterthought. Lyrically, there was a predicament: Malay and Chinese were national languages, but English was more popular, and its facility with metaphor certainly made it more conducive to rock-and-roll's quasi-poetry. Steam Kodok presents songs from these three very different traditions, each equally rewarding to English-speaking listeners. Regarding the Malay and Chinese lyrics, it is a rare chance to experience vocal melody without the distraction of semiotics (outside of scat singing, of course, whose spontaneity keeps it from achieving the same thoughtfulness of melody). We have no idea what the vocalist is singing in "Ikan Todak", for instance, but the very tenor of his voice conveys a level of playfulness so profound, words would have been entirely irrelevant anyway ("Ikan Todak", incidentally, means "swordfish"). What stands out most in the English-language cuts is their remarkable simplicity. We tend to think of 60s British and American beat lyrics as utterly quaint and simple-- how much simpler can you get than "I want to hold your hand" or "You got me so I don't know what I'm doing"?-- but emotionally these are pretty complex. Wanting to hold someone's hand carries metaphorical baggage. A commitment is at hand, so to speak, and paradoxically, a larger physical gesture of love, like a kiss, does not mean nearly as much as a simple hand-hold. When Singapore's the Quests sing, "You walk with me, you talk with me, and you dance with me," "you'll be my bride," and "I'll be your man," they intend no more than just what they say. There is no deeper significance, no implications-- the words are intended prima facie, and the honesty is hugely endearing. As I mentioned earlier, some melodies on Steam Kodok are taken directly from previous English renditions, with only the lyrics replaced or perhaps translated to the native language. These minor recontextualizations redeem their outplayed originals: anyone who has spent three seconds in a car with a radio has heard the Temptations' "Get Ready", and it's a good song, but many of us have tired of its reincarnations as family vacation sing-alongs. Over time, it seems songs like "Get Ready" function more as part of a social fabric than they do as songs themselves-- the thought of coming back from work and listening to some old Temptations records doesn't appeal to me at any rate. "Bersedia"-- the Malaysian version of "Get Ready" by Ismail Haron & The Guys-- differs from the original only in choice of language, but the variation avails an opportunity to appreciate the song's fantastic melody and snare-on-one backbeat, the elements that made "Get Ready" an immediate classic in the first place. Steam Kodok is doubly redemptive, in this sense: on one hand, it rescues otherwise forgotten moments in a rich 60s South-East underground culture; on the other, it makes relevant again our own rich musical history, which we rarely consider on a strictly aesthetic level. Beyond the thought that informed this carefully considered compilation, what fascinates me even more is how powerful of an artform rock-and-roll had become, especially so early in its lifetime. Freedome, fame, fun...it was immediately relevant to so many different cultures. The genre, as Steam Kodok's very existence would suggest, was instantly politicized, and theretofore has brought together otherwise completely dissimilar cultures, each enchanted by the possibility of creating something that might transcend petty but very real social differences that keep us apart. It speaks to the faculty of art in general, and, given the historical background of Steam Kodok's contributors, one can only wonder what might have happened in the 1960s had we traded in grenades for guitars and pistols for paintbrushes.”

V/A: TUMBÉLÉ! 2Xlp (Soundway re) M-/M- 200:-
Biguine, Afro & Latin Sounds from the French Caribbean, 1963-74'. A look at the unique and overlooked sounds from the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Lilting biguines, heavy gwo ka drums and tumbélé rhythms collide with the sounds of the carnival. Haitian, Congolese and Puerto Rican influences are added to the pot in a percussive celebration of Afro-Caribbean spirit. Often overlooked in the English speaking Caribbean, the scattering drums and soaring clarinets of the biguine ruled the airwaves and dancefloors of Martinique and Guadeloupe in the 1960s. This album showcases the vibrancy of the scene on the islands in the 60s and 70s - a scene that would go on to develop the all-conquering sound of zouk in the '80s. Uptown bands like Ensemble La Perfecta and Les Loups Noirs combine heavy rhythms and psychedelic effects in an inimitable style - check out the crazed Jet Biguine for a better idea! The deep and introspective sounds of Monsieur Dolor and Guadeloupean hero Robert Loison show the deep African roots of the music - songs born out of the plantations, with an insistent rhythm and mournful vocals that are unique to these islands. Overlooked outside of Paris, Montreal and the French Caribbean for many years, this collection redresses the balance by presenting the vital sounds of Martinique and Guadeloupe - missing pieces of the musical jigsaw puzzle of the Caribbean.

V/A: WASA WASA  (SR US re) NEW  190:-
Dr. Boogie presents Wasa Wasa'. 'Fabulous Rhythm'n'Blues Shakers on the Dancefloor 1952-1968'. A fine opportunity to remind everyone that what was called rhythm and blues in the late '50s and came from 'race music' was the marriage of the word rhythm which designated a fast tempo and the word blues which brought to mind the unmovable 12-bar rule. Rhythm'n'Blues would become the vector that would let black music infiltrate white popular music and pave the way for the emergence of rock'n'roll.

V/A: THE WORLD ENDSS: AFRO ROCK & PSYCHEDELIA IN 1970s NIGERIA 3xLP Part 1 3xLP (SW UK re)  NEW 270:-
V/A: THE WORLD ENDSS: AFRO ROCK & PSYCHEDELIA IN 1970s NIGERIA PART 2 3xLP (SW UK re) NEW 270:-"Afro Rock & Psychedelia in 1970s Nigeria". A majestic 6 LP document of this fantastic scene. Showcasing a wave of guitar driven and psychedelic groups that sprung up in Nigeria during the early 1970s. This is the sound of a generation attempting to pick up the pieces after the devastation of the Nigerian civil war. Spread over 2 triple gatefold LPs, this bumper collection is brimming with youthful exuberance, fuzzed out guitar and cosmic organ vibes and owes much to the psychedelic sounds of Jim Morrison, Santana, Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane and James Brown. As the summer of love was blossoming in London and San Francisco, Nigeria was imploding into civil war. Also known as the Biafra war of 1967, it was a grisly conflict taking over three million lives yet at the same time the country was being pulled apart there was a new world beginning. The tracks featured represent a forgotten chapter in Nigeria's musical history when the youth threw their varied morsels into the pot from hard rock to psychedelic soul when guitars were cherished instruments, symbolic of a new movement, when highlife and Afrobeat played second fiddle to 'The beat'
